      It’s come out here and there that liberals within the party are not happy with the decision to add her.

      Who is her ?

      Anti abortion, pro conversion therapy and against LGBT communities.

      That is who SHE is.

      Oh and she didn’t change overnight.

      The die hard 60+ liberals will convince you this is right and this isn’t a democracy issue but it is.

      One floor crosser, sure.

      4-5, your using a loophole in the law. I’m starting to hate our politicians using loopholes trying to convince us it’s for the good of this country. Like oh it’s legal, yes but it’s not acceptable to this degree.

      Our votes should matter. I’m happy people are increasingly uncomfortable with this.

      It is weird. It should make you feel uncomfortable.

      If constituents want change, they can vote. Their voices matter. All of our voices matters.

      This is wrong.

      Guess what? I voted liberal.

      Gotta say, on balance this was a positive development for the Conservatives. Got rid of a moron and she did it all by herself.

      Canada has been functioning in a state of semi emergency since D has been elected. I think most people who voted liberal did so with that in mind. I don’t think she would’ve been welcomed if we were in normal times. Also she will not be able to pass anything based on her extra nutty beliefs with a liberal majority and she knows it

      Green Party and PPC are non-entities

      NDP is in the shitter, they have a possibility of a comeback with Avi but odds are stacked against as they always are for outright socialists

      The CPC is hemorrhaging members as the liberals are emerging as a superior Conservative Party.

      What does that leave for an opppostion? The Bloc?

      Wait until Carney prorogues parliament to get majority on all committees to push through everything he wants without oversight. Our democracy is weaker today than it was 10 years ago.

      I see a party willing to do “Whatever it takes” to get a majority. With no redirect around what they have planned after their power is secured. So, I feel like the current Liberal party is another wolf in sheeps clothing. Waiting to gain power to show what their real intentions are, and i’m not confident they are good ones.

      So both Liberals and Conservatives voted against forcing a byelection in this situation (bill c-106 2011).

      I read through the bill and I know often one party will make a bill that the main part seems good, but theyll hide some bs in there that the other parties will vote against so that the other side can hate on them for not voting for it. I couldn’t find anything myself, happy to be corrected on that.

      Is this potentially something that should be done by a referendum? I think most people would be against floor crossing, although I am an expat who’s lived out of Canada since 2011, and voted Liberal (not that my vote means much being from Manitoba let’s be honest, and it was a very safe Liberal seat) so maybe I’m only getting the Reddit/news/friends opinions on it.

      I can guarantee you Liberals are not wondering anything like that. They’re wondering how far they can push the limits of pro-corporate neoliberalism once they’ve got their majority.

      Absolutely no blame being laid on the CPC’s leadership for pushing even what should be hard right MP’s out of the party. None.

      Some self-reflection would be really handy but I doubt that’s going to happen. What we will get is vague accusations of corruption and apoplectic crying about the MPs people voted for putting on the wrong armband.

      If you voted for a brand over a person, you were fully disengaged from the process of democracy anyway.

      Wasnt the whole point of closing ranks with the trudeau liberals to counter the rise of trumpism?

      And now we just accept that they let in anti vax and anti abortion freaks?

      Simple, it says what has been always true about the LPC. That they are chameleons, that they can be whatever they want to be, whenever they want to be. They’ll just put a centrist spin on it.

      People are switching parties because the NDP is dead and the Conservatives are being run by a bunch of Reform Party clowns.

      Well if you ask me, we need more floor crossers! 

      Never in my life have I seen this many Conservatives so concerned about transparency and democracy in my lifetime. 

      Maybe a few more crossing the floor and they might finally support legislation to ban floor crossing or even support proportional representation.

      If the cons were in a similar situation I doubt they would care where the floor crossers came from either.

      Liberals are wondering, when are conservatives going to get the message that PP just isn’t fit to lead? How fortunate for us; look at all these floor crossers, giving us a majority on a silver platter.

      I see a lot of hypotheticals and people complaining about morals. The same people who elected Trudeau and Canada lost a decade with self destructive policy.

      Let Carney actually do something productive. He’s not Trump and can build. Endless election cycles every year isn’t an option either. If he doesn’t perform well then y’all can whine and criticize (while having zero actual ideas to contribute).

      if you are a liberal and think this is okay, I have one question for you- how would you feel if it was a conservative government that got majority this way? 

      because to me, I can guarantee you’d be calling it some flavour of fascism. 

      this isn’t democracy. this isn’t what people voted for. if you’ve seen these woman’s politics before she doesn’t align with the liberals AT ALL- makes you wonder what made her REALLY cross over. it’s all a sham. and people are not only okay with this, but cheering it on?? crazy work. 

      (also: as a conservative I wouldn’t feel comfortable with them getting majority through means of floor crossings. because it’s wrong.)
