Several members of his staff have resigned, several people and organizations are withdrawing their endorsements, and his super PAC just cancelled its ad buys. I’d say he’s done.

The timing of this coming out right before the gubernatorial primary is a massive bombshell, but the specific details from the former staffer are absolutely sickening. If these reports hold up, it’s not just a campaign ender, it’s a total collapse of his public image.

The Democratics need a solid candidate for governor in California. It’s very troubling as only the top two candidates in the June primary, Republican or Democrat will advance to the run off in November. We could end up in a situation were California will only have a choice between Bianco and Hilton come November. The democrats need to get themselves organize, back one candidate in June and have the rest of the Democratic hopefuls drop out so they do not dilute the voting pool, and California ends up with a Republican only run off.
Well, the good news is that, hopefully, this breaks that vote split between Porter, Steyer, and Porter.

Honestly, this is pretty much it. Whether he bows out or not, these are significantly worse allegations than what hurt Porter’s campaign back in winter of last year (being an awful boss). It’s really more of a question of whether he’s forced to resign at this point. It’s absolutely disgraceful that he thought he could get away with this for so long, much less run for higher office.
Swalwell’s at 12-14% in a lot of polls and I expect that the lion’s share of that will go to Porter and Steyer, with a potential opening for Mahan as essentially the only prominent Norcal candidate now that Swalwell’s been nuked. It’s a different dynamic now, and together with Trump’s endorsement of Hilton (which it turns out was probably the right call for the GOP, since the chances of 2 Dems advancing just increased significantly), the likelihood of a D lockout is very low now.
Hey republicans, watch how this is done… If there is evidence and he’s proven guilty, lock him up. No denials, no I don’t care if he did it, just facts, justice and move on.
If anyone asks the difference between democrats and republicans, Democratic voters will not support a rapist for office.
Putting on my tinfoil hat, I do find the timing suspect considering that the California Democrats desperately need to thin their candidate pool otherwise they risk sending two Republicans to the governor general election on account of their ‘jungle’ primary system.
In any case, his campaign is cooked. Good riddance.
