How about we just abolish the position of governor general instead?

Idk why I find it super funny when prime ministers just make sure to appease French and English speakers.

Idk if I’m saying it properly, but it just sounds fake, but it’s fake for a reason, and every party leader has and will do it.

Chris Hadfield would be a great pick IMO. Speaks French, great energy. Though the last astronaut pick didn’t go so well…

If you can do a good job, it shouldn’t matter the language you speak.

I’d be fine with the position being awarded completely at random to an adult Canadian born citizen. At least their time in the position would potentially be somewhat amusing and not just enriching yet another already socially elite fuckwit.

  6. There really has to be more important things to talk about and more important qualifications to consider.

If we are castigating Air Canada’s CEO for not learning French, shouldn’t we do the same with the Governer General?

Where do I send my CV? I speak both and I’ll do the job for half the normal salary. I don’t even have to stay at Rideau Hall, I can rent a room from a relative who lives in Vanier.

  9. „Will absolutely speak French“

The former Air Canada CEO is punching air right now

  10. Great thing our education system does the brilliant job it does at teaching french to young canadians.

The representative of the British Crown shouldn’t have to speak French.

  12. There should be no next governor general. A colossal waste of tax payer money.

  13. It’s a stupid position and should be done away with. The monarchy does nothing for this country anyways.

I don’t care if they speak Spanish. We just need competent people to run this country, which we clearly don’t have. And I include Carney and all the others in this realm of incompetence.

  15. Julie Payette was bilingual and a horrible person. Let’s not repeat that. Just because they’re bilingual shouldn’t make them a better candidate.

Could be wrong, but I think they usually switch back and forth between a francophone and a (usually at least moderately bilingual) anglophone.

They’re on anglophone now w Mary Simon. So yeah, duh, the next is going to speak French.

  17. They should be but that they not terrorize the staff should be a just as important priority. Despite a lot of lip service it increasingly appears it isn’t in practice for recent governments.

  18. Well that blows a hole in my dream that Rick Mercer would become the next Governor General
