Finally. Should have happened many years ago. Why would we be the biggest donor to that country if so many despise the EU there? Russian propaganda has been strong for many years. We knew that vucic was a far right extremist even before he got elected.

    2. If they do cut it, I hope they at least ringfence some money directly for independent media and NGOs instead of the government. Anyone know if that’s being discussed?

Use that money to influence them instead like the Russians Americans and chinese do, play them at their own game

    4. Why are we giving money to Serbia in the first place? Can’t we fund renewables, infrastructure, R&D and EU-based start ups instead?

These EU funds prop up dictatorships, like in Hungary. Orban and Co basically stole it. It’s good that he doesn’t get money anymore and the population feels the pressure

Took them long enough. We’ve been complaining about this for a while. EU gives money to candidate states but nothing was done about serbia eu ascension for like a decade, all this money was taken up by our crimin- politicians. So when people say „eu supports vučić“ this is what we mean, they keep giving „us“ money for „development“ yet despite years of documented history of fund misuse, eu never stopped to question if this money gets to its intended destination. Good to see things have escalated to this point since this is the closest thing to eu directly affecting vučić in a way protests cannot, and also in a way that will significantly hurt him.

„Why not ask putin for money“ because russian influence in serbia is so so much less relevant than what people believe, vučić relies on russia for political power and eu for financial power. Ultimately, a criminal doesn’t care how or who supports him to stay in power so long as he does stay in power, you just turn to whatever side is better at the moment.
