      The US left NATO a long time ago. Once Trump mused about not coming to the aid of a NATO country the value of US guarantees went to junk bond status.

      At this point, though, the Republicans have been so feckless, Trump probably thinks he can do it without Senate approval and no one is brave enough to tell him the truth.

      Trump administration can’t withdraw from NATO unless 2/3 of congress approves. Marco Rubio brought it for vote and won. No president can withdraw without 2/3 of congress.

      If anyone has the cognitive ability in Trumps administration, they should actually *read* the NATO agreement, especially the bit about it being a defensive pact, not an offensive one. The U.S. *attacked* Iran – so you’re on your own.

      But I guess Trump is just listening to Putin telling him that NATO is costing them billions for nothing in return. Thats how easily he can be manipulated.

      They do it, and watch every NATO member withdraw them from their bases. The US loses access to multiple countries airspace, and has to force project by sea.

      There’s no way in the aftermath of this, that a future president can go.

      „America’s back“ and expect the world to just drop the last so many years.

      If the US withdraws from NATO they will lose all of their overseas bases.

      Thats a fast way to become a regional power.
