That’s a shame. They are responsible for much of our internet footage. I’ve been plotting up to buy one for years now but they seem to be priced to be sold to Redbull only.

    3. This is a company with a good product but how many customers need a new release once they have a decent one. If they were to built partnerships with parties to help their sales such as Jeep/Bronco cars and Redbull.

They have good cameras but even new phones are taking a cut of their sales.

feels like smartphones quietly replaced most of what gopro used to be for

hard to compete when the default camera is already good enough

    5. Insane to fumble being in a position where your brand name essentially becomes synonymous with your product (far more people refer to them as „GoPros“ than „action cameras“, in my personal experience).

    6. Guess they took a hit when mythbusters stopped blowing up 5 of them every week.

I feel like this was kind of inevitable.

GoPro was the first of the major brands, but had a number of years where their devices stagnated and competition took hold (like DJI and Insta360). Then the numerous Chinese knockoffs took the lower end of the market became good enough for the occasional user.

I also think it’s one of those fad products in the long run – People think they want to capture „that cool ride“ but then they get tired of editing videos and/or don’t do anything with them after the fact other than watching them once or twice and many people probably don’t care enough about 5.3K RAW files and whatever else the newest flagship offers to spend the money.

There’s certainly a market for them (especially in extreme sports) and content creators, but it’s possible that the market for higher end ones is shrinking, or at least stagnating.

    8. I liked GoPro a lot. My only complaint was that the camera didn’t save my motorcycle clip when I crashed :(. Only the glass from the actual camera broke, but something must have gotten loose and deleted 30 secs before impact. I tried data retrieval tools but no trace of anything.

Their subscription service is nice for damaged cameras. My MAX 360 was scratched pretty bad getting bad video and photos, they replace 2 camera in a 12 month time period. And unlimited cloud storage for all your video. It’s not bad when or if your outdoor and want to ride a bike and use a go pro as a dash cam

Your camera is on the far side of the moon on a solar array. Be better.

What’s the Best GoPro to Buy when they go out of business? Or are there better cameras that are cheaper and perform better now?

This stupid ass company… they could have had the WORLD. They need to fire every single executive and go back to their roots. Dedicate everything to r&d and compete against companies like DJI. Build a drone, a 360cam, better audio. But no, punish the labor force, short term rewards for the shareholders.

    13. As a Long time GoPro user – their ambassadors have been carrying them for the last few years now

I’m more amazed they only have 600 employees for a range of internationally known consumer technology products

    15. I like their physical hardware but the software is such a pain in the ass to use. I use it for recording video while driving my cars on track and getting it to integrate with 3rd party software has been problematic because they keep changing the API, and the actual software on my phone is overly complex and lacks some pretty basic features on the new models that were easy on the earlier models, like spot metering. I don’t know why companies insist on making the most user unfriendly software. Stop forcing accounts for a physical device I own.

I used to buy one of these off Craigslist/Marketplace anytime I was headed somewhere I thought it might be useful, then sell it upon my return for what I paid for it. Did this probably 5-6 times. The kicker is.. what did I do with all that footage? Absolutely nothing.

I never thought too hard about it before, but hearing how small GoPro is is honestly surprising

    18. I’m honestly surprised their current workforce was that large. They don’t innovate or market at all
