    1. Surprised that they call the English Channel just “Der Canal” (The Channel).

      Was this the accepted name across Europe? I imagined it was a British thing, abbreviating it locally because from the British perspective it was the most important, most referred to, channel.

      my takeaways:

      no use of „UK,“ „GB“ or „Britain“

      just Ireland, England and Scotland (I imagine England meant all three)

      Wales isn’t labelled, nor is Glasgow , which was already bigger than Edinburgh, or Belfast, which was on its way to overtaking Dublin in Ireland (though not yet)
