    In france and probably other countries there are multiple emergency numbers 112 is the global one but not many use it, 17 is police 18 is firefighter, 15 is medics. Also i am pretty sire dialing 911 directs you to 112 or stg

    Bosnia is 122, 123, 124 (police, ambulance, fire department, respectively), not 112…

  3. China has 110 for police, 119 for fire, 120 ambulance separated, so there should be listed 3.

    In Colombia, the general emergency number is 123, 112 is specifically for police

  5. 112 works on US phones as well it automatically redirects to the 911 system i assume its done due to tourists from other countries

    America couldn’t use 999, as was used in the UK, due to the way their telephone infrastructure was set up at the time, so used 911 instead.

  7. 112 is the universal emergency number in Europe. But each country also retains its own numbers and for different services. For example, in Greece, police is 100, ambulance is 166, and fire department is 199.

  8. Why is Pakistan the only country with 15, but other countries with unique numbers are all grouped together as gray?

    Colombia is 123, and has been for almost a decade, unified emergency number, nation-wide.

    112 was police, 117, firefighters, 113 medical emergency, 116 civil guard or kidnapping hotline, I don’t remember.

    Anyway, those were for metropolitan areas/capitals. You’d actually had to know the landline number to the police headquarters quarters/hospital whatever service you needed if you happened to live on a rural area.

    Which I did since I was a kid. And stupidly, to this day, I still keep in close contact or try to befriend the police chief and the firemen on our small town.

    Not needed anymore, but you’ll always get a good head rush and feel the envy when you’re casually strolling and the fire truck hails you. Like damn…. So hot

    In Chile it depends of the emergency

    131 Ambulance

    132 Fire department

    133 Police

    134 Civil Police

  11. In Colombia the 112 is only for calling the cops, the actual emergency number is 123

  12. Unsure on UK having green and red stripes. I live in the supposed 112 area and it’s widely 999 use here. The map looks too perfectly striped for uk/ie. Ive genuinely never heard anyone in Northern Ireland use the 112 option before.

    Notably in South Africa you don’t really want to call the 10111 number, but rather call your local stations direct line – WAY more effective.

    Also don’t want to call 10111 for an ambulance like other countries have integrated into 911 etc.

    You call 10177 for an ambulance.

    We also have a 112 number specifically for on your cell phone with our Big 4 Telecoms providers – it goes to a call center and they can route your call to the specific emergency service you need.

  14. I’m pretty sure many of these are interchangeable. 112 will usually work in the US.

  15. In Germany you have two different numbers. 110 for the Police and the 112 for the Firefighters and ambulance.

    For Egypt its 122 for Police, 123 for Ambulance and 180 for Fire. 112 is the „global“ emergency line

    Brazil. For those wanting to visit one day.
    190 -> Police
    192 -> Ambulance
    193 -> Firefighters

    There are plenty more but those are 3 „basic“ ones.
