The proxy war strategy has been incredibly effective for Iran. They’re gaining influence across the region without direct military confrontation, which is honestly pretty smart geopolitically even if we don’t like the outcomes.

No, no it isn’t. Regional power, sure, they’ve been that for a while. Definitely making us look stupid though.

  3. You have to give it to Trump, no other President has managed to wrestle control from Oil markets and given it to their enemies.

Nobody seems to understand what words like world power or superpower mean anymore

World power? No. Weak? Also no.

If they’re smart (they definitely are) and plan this out right, they can parlay their new influence into more partnerships with China and other ~~superpowers~~ *world powers*.

Edit: ok I get it, I used the wrong term

I wish we could just settle this with a cage match between Mojtaba Khamenei and Trump.

  7. Trump wanted to weaken Iran. Instead he made em stronger. Great job genius.

Iran may willingly trade nuclear power for the Economic Power they can gain from this in the World Order.

They could very easily make a lot of money from other nations just to sail the Strait of Hormuz to fund their military and whatever other „adventures“ they decide to undertake.

Unbelievable. Well done, Trump and America. From a proposed regime change to making them a key player in world economy.

This is trump’s legacy. He will for ever be known as the loser president that lost it all.

    > The United States faces a difficult choice: either commit to a long-term effort to reassert control over the Strait of Hormuz, or accept a new global energy arrangement in which U.S. control is no longer assured.

    > If it chooses acceptance, the outcome is clear: The international system will reorganize with Iran as a fourth center of global power. Yet if the United States chooses to reassert military control, it is in for a long battle, one it could well lose.

    > The Iran war is not a military conflict from which the United States can simply back out, with things reverting to how they were before. Iran would surely demand a heavy price in a new accommodation with the United States — but this price will surely be less costly than that of the alternative future. This is a transformational war, and if these changes continue for even a few years, the global order will change irrevocably.

Trustworthy source. Worth full read. (No paywall.)

It’s an oil hegemon. As described by Jeffrey Sachs.

Thanks to Trump for enabling this.

Bibi finally got someone dumb enough to make his desires and dreams of death and destruction in the middle east come true. He kept repeating the same line .. Nuclear weapon time and time again hoping someone would bite and he found his fool and now the doom begins

I was telling my homies, this whole thing popped off cause the BB regime wanted to be a world superpower but it has literally shown and had the opposite effect lol

ITT: „LOL Iran isn’t a major world power!“

Meanwhile iterally every gas station on the planet, and every individual pumping gas on the planet, is affected by what Iran does…

  17. Also revealed that US with all the air supremacy also has major limits on what it can do against asymmetrical warfare with inexpensive, cheap to build alternatives.

Wait till there are even bigger swarms of ground, water and air drones with longer range. The matrix is closer.

Incorrect headline. By virtue of geology and geography, they have always been a world power, but it took some major fuckups to make everyone realize it.

Kind of like how we kinda didn’t know how many racist Nazis there were in the US, until the same fuckups gave them permission to out themselves.

  20. Much like how Ukraine humbled Russia, Iran has humbled the US.

No matter how many Billions in weapons you bring you will always struggle to defeat a determined group of people fighting on their home turf, especially if they have drones.

Seriously the biggest outcome from this fiasco is that it’s demonstrated the weakness of the US Navy. One of the Navy’s core missions is to maintain safe navigation of the seas. The US Navy is nowhere near the war though because they know they can’t protect themselves from these cheap drones. That’s a serious problem. If the USN is too afraid to risk a single ship to combat then Taiwan is already lost.

  21. Trumps greatest accomplishment is being Russias most influential asset.

Russia really played the long game loaning/laundering him money and inviting him to beauty pageants. And it is paying off very nicely in their favor

  22. NoYoureAPancake on

Despite the massive self own that this has been for the US, it’s also pretty ridiculous to call Iran a “world power” after this eventually ends. Large portions of their conventional military have been destroyed and I doubt the true damage to their economy has been calculated yet. At best they’ll have a more clear cut authority over the strait of Hormuz, which is bad, but it doesn’t make them a world power.

  23. I don’t think the author has any of the analysis wrong here.

And if that’s the case Trump following Netenyahu into this disaster will be the thing historians talk about for centuries as the moment of no return for the age of the American empire.

  24. They’re set to get about 100 million based on their new oil prices per barrel.

Enough to rebuild their cities and re-establish their army.

Meanwhile we’re losing billions and have nothing to show for it.

    Thanks Trump.

And the ridiculous thing is, everybody who understood anything about the geopolitics of the region already knew Iran could block the Strait easily. This was all very forseeable.
