I already know this is not true. Several airports in Montana fly to Canada, which is international.

  2. This isn’t true at all. Maine has two international airports, plus a lot of small airports that can get you from Maine to Canada, mostly. The two big airports have flights to Europe, and maybe other places.

Do this exercise again, but remove flights to North America. Or list all flights to Mexico, Canada, Caribbean and Puerto Rico as ‚orange‘ category.

I’m kind of blown away that New Mexico doesn’t have a flight to Regular Mexico.

  5. I think people in this thread are mixing up having airports with customs and boarder patrol (being a port of entry), and airports with scheduled international flights.

Nunavut is the biggest shock to me. What international flight flies out of Nunavut?

I’m surprised Portland, ME doesn’t have a jumper to Montreal, Toronto or Quebec City

  9. If Puerto Rico is international, then Hawaii and Alaska are too. PR is as much part of the US as they are

casper wy (cpr) is called an international airport… and has the runway to support about anything short of the space shuttle… but only serves regional traffic.

  11. Are we sure that they are counting flights between US and Canada as international? I’m pretty surprised that you can’t fly direct to Canada from any of those red states.

  12. Surprised those midwestern states and Idaho don’t have a short hop to Canada in some sense

“International airport” means that the airport has a customs facility to accept international arrivals. These can be commercial or private.

An international flight had to make an emergency landing at the Wichita national air, like back in the 80s. So the airport renamed itself to the Wichita international airport. But it didn’t last long.
