Hopefully Japan makes better choices than last time an overly tariff happy US president indirectly threatened Japan’s ability to reliably get fuel.

I mean, obviously Japan can’t trust the USA, but the author’s alternative of looking towards Europe, who can barely defend Ukraine at their doorstep, is frankly delusional.
It isn’t a matter of “trusting” China and Xi Jinping, but trying to keep less provocative and more pragmatic relations with China in the current situation seems a matter of common sense. Especially with Trump willingly or unwillingly pushing for China to take control of the Strait of Hormuz and hence of the flow of oil and gas to the Asia-Pacific.

Canada has negotiated with Iran to allow oil through the straits.
Even that Mark Carney, touted as one of the most inept PMs of all-time behind Trudeau, was able to make it happen.
Japan, with one of the most intelligent, competent, and strong woman leaders this millennium cannot?
Japan rejected the offer from Iran after they publicly accepted it.
There is something wrong here.
