Z is certainly doing the rounds, and making valuable friends – he recognises the future value of soft power in a way that the US has forgotten. Syria (and Turkey) will be big powers in that neighbourhood and making allies with former Russian vassals is very smart. He’s able to operate as a statesman and engage with places like Syria in a way that many of the big powers are unable to do – for political reasons or being too scared of blowback. Very smart guy doing an incredible job under unbelievable circumstances.
