British justice system could do the right thing and send a message. Put these girls in jail for assault for a while and show violence is not tolerated and give him justice.
But they won’t, community service and suspended sentence. We are too soft a touch.
They are 17, not 7. They should be treated as adults.
*worked as a translator for British soldiers in Afghanistan before he was forced to flee the country*
*…worked as a security guard.*
*During his shift last month, he was allegedly attacked and was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition. Following the assault, Ahmadzai was left with severe brain injuries, from which it may take months to recover.*
*Two teenage girls have been arrested in connection with the assault but have since been released on bail.*
*British Transport Police confirmed that officers were called to a railway station at 8.31pm on March 26 after reports that a member of rail staff had been assaulted.*
Get out of Afghanistan after helping British forces, probably think you have moved to a safe country, then this. Doctors don’t yet know of the long term brain damage suffered.
That’s where racism and hate leads us. People think they have ‚legitimate concerns‘ but all they do is create divided, hateful society that hurts the most vulnerable and ignores real issues.
I love how the article has a whole lot of irrelevant words and then tells you absolutely nothing about what happened.
Grim. There have always been pockets of unruly or wayward youth.. what seems different now is the pitch and frequency of it.
Nothing excuses behaviour like that described (unless an ad-hoc last resort fight or flight response to clear and present danger) in the article, but it does not emerge in a vacuum either.
Strip away the scaffolding, clubs, sport, anything that channels energy into something halfway constructive, and you are left with a void. Into that void pours the endless churn of barely supervised social media, amplifying the worst instincts rather than tempering them.
Still, context is not absolution. What is described in the article sounds like nihilistic thuggery, squalid, blunt, and without defence.
More needs to be done to address the causes and prevent at risk youth falling into the above modes of behaviour though. Awful.
