My grandfather was my stand in dad since mine never stepped up. Watching him suffer and eventually die due to dementia was one of the worst things I’ve gone through. I still remember the first time he didn’t remember who I was, it hurt so damned much. It’s so hard watching someone you’ve looked up to your entire life just fade away into a husk of their former self. Fuck dementia and fuck Alzheimer’s.
