      Some of the young adults will inherit this real estate. I hope they help maintain that house while they are living there.

      Now adjust to exclude kids in school to see the „real“ number and not the shock value number.

      The problem with poorer (largely southern) states in this regard is that they (outside of large metro areas) have ass job markets. With that, you can’t realistically build a launchpad for leaving your parents’ house.

      Factor in cultures where living with the parents is expected until marriage and where multigenerational housing is traditional.

      Well in Florida they’re not just their parents but also their lovers so that changes things

      Judging by how it’s concentrated in every geographically southern state and NYC metro it seems this goes beyond simple housing cost.

      Housing don’t get cheaper then in West Virginia.

      This is a housing costs and diversity map. Immigrants will live with their parents culturally

      North Dakota is no surprise to me. As soon as we graduated high school we either left for college, joined the military, or found roommates to split an apartment.

      The map should really be 25-34 or something not 18. Moving out at 18 in this economy is just foolish. 25 is far more reasonable.
