    1. Why would they when America has been negotiating in bad faith the whole time?

When you attack the people you are trying to make a „deal“ with twice mid-negotiations you lose all credibility…

    2. They’re welcome to surrender and step down and let their people hold an election

    3. unironically kind of fine with iran wanting to keep this war going. longer they keep us entrenched, less of a chance for trump to back out before enough damage has been done.

    4. Hardly surprising given that the clerics and IRG are about as hard line as it comes. I guess you could say all sides are equally fundamentalist but in their own, very dangerous religious solipsism, beliefs, and rhetoric.

It’s the Christian/Muslim/Jewish three way that no one wanted, making the world a more dangerous and more expensive place because of make believe beings that live in the sky.

Expecting iran to negotiate with the guy who unilaterally shredded the JCPOA and is currently airstriking their infrastructure is like expecting a bank to approve a loan for the guy who just set their ATM on fire.

Both Iran and US have taken extreme positions for negotiation. Neither of them are going to accept each other’s terms.

It’s a becoming brinkmanship . Both are going to keep escalating militarily, hoping the other will blink at a certain point and accept the deal.

    7. Trump is never about negotiation. It’s always about win-lose where he must win no matter what it takes (as long as it’s not taking from him)

And stocks goes up because they believe Trump who says deal is done. WTF people???

I mean to be fair, if a country bombed the shit out of me, and then threatened to level all power generation and fresh water production, stating they “will bomb them back to the stone ages” and wants to talk. That doesn’t line up with diplomacy at all. I know Iran isn’t free of issues here, but so far it seems like they are the honest ones here. Kinda fucked.

Wasn’t there an article from just the other day that the chief Iranian negotiator was killed by a bomb? The Iranians have no reason to believe that the US or Israel will negotiate in good faith.

    11. In the past 6 months, the US has twice bombed Iran while negotiations were ongoing.

Now the Iranians have discovered that they can choke, then profit, from the global economy at will. This has resulted in the lifting of sanctions and a new seat at the table of global importance. The only cost is the risk of occasional killings of some of their leadership, and living with the US perpetuating war crimes on their population.

…not a huge deal for a regime that massacres their own protestors at the drop of a hat.

So why would they negotiate with the US. The regime is far better off with the US attacking them.

At this point the US is the Martians from *Mars Attacks!* when it comes to negotiating.

Just look at putins demands for ending the Ukraine War, Trump is using the same playbook…

    14. Why would they? Trump scrapped the deal Obama signed because he wanted to out-do him on it, then mid negotiation greenlit bombing campaigns on nuclear facilities, then mid negotiations greenlit the bombing campaign of Iran entirely, then mid tentative negotiations bombed the lead negotiator and killed his wife.

Art of the deal; pretend to come to an agreement meanwhile have your team stab the other side in the back to create more „leverage“. Iran finally learning what no one in the world seemed to prior to this point, Trump is a grifting con artist who will always find a way to screw everyone else over at every opportunity.

    15. HoustonHous on

Looks like both sides are putting crazy terms out there to purposely fail it. Iran is hoping the cost of the war will be too big and the US will just leave, and the US is hoping to kill enough leaders until someone decides to cave…

Both strategies are high risk high reward (and stupid). But both sides are led by extremist with big ego so…

    16. Wait a minute, didn’t our glorious President say that Iran was begging him for a deal like 4 days ago?

    17. America is acting like Russia here. Trump wants the same thing as he did 2 months ago, except things have obviously changed.

Trump is going to either get bored and leave a mess or land troops. Either would he insane.

    18. Iran would be smart to just negotiate with other countries who actually understand diplomacy through words and not bombs.

    19. belisario262 on

they know they have the upper hand. the US will have to keep on begging for conversations.

    20. Crafty-Message4564 on

      Well of course.

Why would you negotiate with someone who can’t understand the meaning of the word?

And I mean that EXTREMELY literally. Trump understands negotiation to be for the purposes of conflict resolution, but doesn’t understand the reason others negotiate.

He literally understands it to be for capitulation.

He is a PREDATOR. To him, everything else is prey.

It is not that predators don’t understand others’ goals in negotiation.

To him, he’s like a cat playing with a toy. It doesn’t matter if the toy is actually your hand or if it’s actually connected to you and you are actually smarter than the cat. All the cat knows is how to bat around the prey.

Trump does NOT understand Iran’s actions. That is why he’s talking like he wants it over. He lost interest because they didn’t give him the response he wanted.

    21. If your MO is to immediately murder people who are negotiating with you, you will run out of people willing to negotiate with you. How weird.

    22. PloppyTheSpaceship on

Really? But Donald says he talks to them all the time, a new and better regime every day!

    23. redditobserverone on

Will the media please hammer him on the repeated ceasefire lie.

Make it his ‘have you no decency’ moment.

Dog his already lame duck residency for the next three years.

Define him and make him an unbearable weight on his party.

Quit being passive, so that the next Trump wannabe knows he won’t be able to duplicate his act.

The press’ relationship with the president changed with Nixon when they stopped reflexively revering the office, no matter who occupied the White House.

Go back to that. Find that tenacity dear media.

    24. Why would they talk when they’re arguably winning just by simply letting this braindead admin keep bumbling about lol
