A report was published by Human Rights Watch. Covering the period between 2023 and 2025, it documents 57 incidents in which at least 1,837 civilians were killed. Of those, 33 were committed by government forces and their allies, resulting in 1,255 civilian deaths. It details abuses by all parties in the conflict. The widespread killing of innocent civilians is bound to bolster the recruitment of the militant groups opposing the governments of Mali and Burkina Faso.
