Can anyone please tell me where else TOP has rapped the bars at 2:31 of „THE GIANT“ I feel like it’s so obvious but I think because it’s in a different song I’m struggling to make the full mental link.

    2. Wanted to celebrate TOP and this massive milestone so sharing this after posting on the big bang thread:

I just finished my first listen of the album. Without understanding the lyrics, these are my biggest takeaways/thoughts:

      • Top clearly put a lot into production and world building. This shit sounds like Kid Cudi or prime Kanye produced it. Parts of this album sounds like Yeezus, Kids See Ghosts and ye. It’s lush and very grand. Theres also a bit of a Yeat and Don Toliver influence here but it doesn’t sound like he’s trying to keep up with trends or anything.

      • it’s definitely made to be listened to from top to bottom. There’s a clear flow here between the songs.

      • As much as I love all the experimenting he did with his vocals, I wish he rapped more. I know he said in that recent GQ interview that he’s got 5 albums ready and recorded so I hope there’s more rapping on those tracks. I always felt like he was under-utilised in a lot of the later Big Bang drops, minus the GD&TOP collabs.

      • Was pleasantly surprised that he addressed the k-media head on right off the intro. That was very ballsy imo

      • Fave tracks off the first listen: THE GIANT, Studio54, Another Dimension, Stendhal Syndrome and Be Solid

Overall, I think this album is extremely precise and considered. I also think as an album, in the context of the kpop and khiphop landscape, is pretty ambitious. Some of these songs don’t have a real hook and lengthy periods of instrumentals that might not grab the casual listener. There is massive range there too – he goes from a club/dance track like Studio54 with the traditional hook to ZERO COKE which is vast and weird. As much as I don’t love FOR FANS (despite the message I’m sure), I imagine taking it off the tracklist would make the album feel incomplete. There is no fat to trim here and it’s a fully finalised project. I definitely hope TOP releases more music cause imo out of all the Big Bang members, he’s got the clearest vision for his solo music.

EDIT: to add more thoughts and correct the 10 spelling mistakes due to hyper

i just want y’all to know that taeyang just promoted this album on his ig story!

    4. Wow

11 songs full of reflection, pain, the past, regret but also hope, optimism, a way forward, improvement, the desire to be better… I’m so fucking emo omg…

I always love how passionate he is about art. Ed Ruscha has created some fantastic pieces; for him to do the album cover is so cool. I didn’t expect this collaboration at all! I’ve yet to listen to the album but I am so excited. I was obsessed with DOOM DADA when it came out. LONG TIME NO SEE!!

    6. im so not okay, especially after listening to self-crucifixion. i want to go on a drive at night while listening to this album.

Not me crying and screaming internally on the train home just from the first song alone 😭 ngl it’s been a longtime coming esp as someone who’s been loyally stanning for half their life now 🥹

Kpop jesus has risen again just in time for easter, welcome back TOP we absolutely missed you so much. You’re still so loved by us VIPs.

    8. Such a long wait, but totally worth it. Damn. He truly is at the TOP of his game and it’s so good to have him back and speaking his truth. I bet every idol rapper is geeking out big time right now – this guy is so damn influential.

All the references to Big Bang got me feeling some kind of way, and coupled with Taeyang posting about the album on his IG, I hope this shows he’s at peace with his time with the group and might contemplate joining them again one day. It doesn’t have to be Coachella, but hey, feel free to prove me wrong.

    9. What an absolutely insane album. You can’t listen to this on shuffle, it is absolutely required to listen from top to bottom. I can’t believe the fucking king is back.

    10. I’ve finished listening to the album for the first time and translated some of the lyrics. The production is stellar, his vocals interesting (how I had missed his deep voice!) and the sound very experimental. He is very honest about his feelings and about past events and it feels both sad and cathartic. I look forward to listening to it again. The man is back.

every single one of these instrumentals is straight gas, holy shit. he was always undercredited for his composition skils in bigbang, this is imo more a coming out party for TOP as a composer-producer than anything else

Am I delulu or does he say “BIG BANG” in Studio54 and A, SMALL, FILTHY SHOW WINDOW? That’s what I’m hearing and idk if it’s because I want him to join them at Coachella or if I’m hearing it wrong.

this album is genuinely incredible. idk how to properly explain it but it has that olddd kpop rap feel that i love. biased opinion bc i’ve been t.o.p biased since i got into kpop in 2015 😭 I’m so happy he’s back

    14. majstorfantac on

Easily album of the year. No need for 20 writters per song, only TOP and his emotions. Great stuff. This is real back to the roots story…
