      Only a total invasion that leads to control of all areas of the country Would lead to a re open via force. Iran has been ready for this battle for decades. Its not hard or complicated to launch drones and rockets at ships in the strait

      The strait will open when iran stops attacking ships only, gonna have to make some type of agreement

      He’s not wrong. It’s practically impossible to do short of glassing the entire region and maintaining a complete exclusion zone. And nobody wants to see the level of civilian casualties that would entail (Ok, ok, we know Israel would be delighted but let’s ignore the genocidal maniacs for a moment).

      For now, pay Iran a toll, take the time to develop alternative routes / energy sources, then walk away.

      Correct. Iran can target the strait from anywhere in Iran. You’d have to conquer the whole country and even then there’d be no guarantee that some guerilla group wouldn’t continue the fight.

      Highlights the pointlessness and stupidity of the US action in the first place.

      Of course it is. It only takes the threat of a potential drone attack or two for ships to nope the fuck out on even trying to pass. Iran doesn’t even have to back that threat up to any major extent for it to be effective.

      Ukraine has ports visited by 200 ships or so that are kept safe from Russian attack, many gulf countries have begun consulting with them.
