Aretha Franklin should have shown her more-

    Respect!

Aretha was so freaking mean. Literally, all of her R&B Diva peers have accounts of her being rude to them: Dionne Warwick, Patti Labelle, Mavis Staples, Gladys Knight, Diana Ross, Martha Reeves, Tina Turner, etc.

Just about every R&B Diva that came after her also has as a story about a time when Aretha bullied them: Fantasia, Mary J, Luther, Natalie Cole, Chaka Khan, TLC, etc.

She was even mean to Whitney Houston when Whitney first broke out as a star in the 1980s and Whitney’s *mother* Cissy Houston was admittedly one of her best friends. How do you bully your best friend’s child who you’ve known since they were a little girl?

She publically lost her shit when Beyonce called Tina Turner “The Queen” after performing with her. She released a statement implying that she has been insulted! No genre had even been specified.

Worst of all, she directly sabotaged the careers of her own sisters who were talented singer-songwriters in their own right. They even wrote hit songs for Aretha.

In the black community, she has the nickname Hateretha and it is well earned.

This sounds bad, but context matters: at the time Jill had just crashed her hot dog car into a clothing store while wearing a dog costume and was desperately trying to find a scapegoat to shift the blame.
