Nur Sabah und Sarawak (auf der Insel Borneo) erkennen Karfreitag aufgrund ihrer großen christlichen Bevölkerung als offiziellen Feiertag an. Auf der malaysischen Halbinsel – der Heimat von Kuala Lumpur – ist es hingegen nur ein ganz normaler Arbeitstag.

For such a “Christian” nation, I’m surprised that the US doesn’t consider the rebirth of their lord and savior to be worthy of a public holiday.
In Finland the Friday , Sunday and Monday are holidays – though now when stores can be freely open the Sunday does not differ from any other Sunday.

We get the Great Easter Banker in the UK: Friday and Monday off – best public holiday of the year.
Easter is a pagan holiday first practiced by the Celtic Druids in 200 BC that the Catholic and Orthodox religions co-opted in 600 AD … 800 years later.
Resurrection Sunday however is a Christian celebration, with Sunday being the operative word when most folks are off of work.

Did not think so much of Muslim majority Africa would have Easter as a public holiday but Ethiopia wouldn’t.
I remember Good Friday for example being a holiday in Indonesia, Easter itself is on a Sunday so there’s no real consequence for many people for that date (I’ve been there during Easter in 2016 and way longer too). I had my first day at office at what we in the Netherlands would call 2nd Easter day (Easter Monday, which in NL is a holiday).

While not a federal Holiday, Good Friday is a state holiday in several parts of the US and serves as a day off for Easter (Easter not being a holiday due to, by definition, always falling on a Sunday).

It isn’t just „taking a day off“. My country (Bulgaria) also has Easter as an official holiday (from Friday to Monday), but a lot of industries still work on those days. The difference is that they may close earlier, AND the pay is doubled if you choose to (or have to) work then.
And schools have an Easter vacation which is usually the whole week before Easter.
A lot of people choose to travel to relatives and spend the holiday together so it’s definitely not „just another Sunday which is already a rest day anyway“.

Holidays that always fall on a Sunday just aren’t going to be made into official public holidays in the US. This map is stupid and anti-American for the absolute dumbest reason. Whoever made it does not know that Easter is always on Sunday. That’s a day off work for all people who would benefit from an official federal holiday anyway.

USA and Mexico: YES.
In Uruguay, Easter is mainly celebrated on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Neither is a mandatory day off, but it’s common not to work on Sunday here, so people tend to spend it with family.
Some jobs, like mine, give us Friday off, and others are luckier and also get Thursday or the whole week off.
That said, in Uruguay, the official name isn’t Holy Week, but rather Tourism Week (although people often refer to it by their preferred name).
For Iraq only Christmas is a national public holiday. Christmas is only a holiday to Christians
In Lebanon we get both Catholic an Orthodox easter off!
