  1. Men who favor the tradwife lifestyle often view the women in it with derision

A recent study published in Psychology of Women Quarterly suggests that young men who favor the internet subculture known as the tradwife movement tend to hold hostile and patronizing sexist attitudes. The findings provide evidence that the appeal of this lifestyle for men is rooted in a desire for traditional power dynamics rather than a simple preference for a stay-at-home partner.

The term tradwife is a combination of the words traditional and wife. It refers to an internet subculture made up of women who promote a return to traditional gender roles. These women often use platforms like TikTok and Instagram to share videos of themselves cooking from scratch, cleaning, and caring for children.

The subculture relies heavily on a nostalgic aesthetic that glorifies the 1950s American suburbs. Women in these videos are often seen wearing vintage dresses, aprons, and high heels while performing domestic labor. The movement partly emerged as a response against the modern girlboss culture that encourages women to prioritize corporate careers and individual wealth.

The lifestyle centers on the idea that women should focus entirely on homemaking while submitting to their husbands. In this dynamic, the husband acts as the sole financial provider and the primary decision maker in the family. Women who identify with this subculture often reject the idea of working outside the home.

Wait? What? People with patronizing sexist attitudes and push for lifestyles centered on the idea that women should focus entirely on homemaking while submitting to their husbands view women with derision? Shut the front door.

I wonder why some women are even often more in favor of it than men.

    Also, the headline is misleading.

I don’t get it. I’d happily be a stay at home husband if my wife wanted to work. The only thing I can’t/won’t do is cook. I just don’t have that skill.

  5. That tracks. A high level of correlation is to be expected. The same people also want to strip women of voting rights. Basically its the Taliban with better fashion sense and a TikTok account…

  6. I’m really shocked. Who could have predicted that people preferring women being financially dependant on their husband could possibly hold outdated sexist attitudes? Baffling correlation really.

Also, I feel like this very important flaw of the tradwife trend should have gotten more focus than just being slapped on in the end.

    >“In the social sciences, there is a burgeoning interest in understanding how strict gender-role adherence can create challenges for men,” she added. “For example, economic trends indicate that it is increasingly difficult to support a family on a single income.”

We should study the reverse of this! Let me know if there are any female millionaires browsing around for a sugar baby. In the meantime, I’ll practice cooking wearing nothing but an apron with my cheeks out.

  7. Not that I contest the validity/accuracy of the study and its findings, but I do wonder if the liberal slant of academia influenced the study design, and whether a more politically neutral group of researchers would have done things differently or even reached slightly different conclusions

Chodelords who want women to act like women at a time where women were viewed as less equal view women as less equal? Weird!

It’s almost as if a lifestyle that devalues the other person is linked to a mindset that devalues the other person.

    Well the more you know.

  10. It’s not just that they deride them but they actively resent them for not contributing financially to the home economy. Which is weird because apparently they don’t want a wife who works outside the home
… but they want a wife who doesn’t spend any of his hard earned money. And they want her to continue looking hot, but don’t spend any money doing it. And don’t look hot for anyone else, just him – but how that’s meant to work is unclear. And so on and so on … Hypocrisy always wins.

    I don’t,

However, it’s an impossible dream these days because both men and women have to work like morons just to pay the bills.
