He didn’t put her at risk of blackmail. I don’t know what his deal is, but if crossdressing was a blackmail risk it’s only because of GOP bigotry and the need to keep it hidden (maybe hiring sexworkers is a bad look but they deserve dignity and as long as it’s consensual etc). I hate that the headline blames crossdressing/ being trans as a national security risk when it’s transphobia and pressure to keep one’s nature secret that is the real risk.

My dad spent 80 years as a closeted trans person. She had a very successful career but keeping that part hidden meant not pursuing what she really wanted to do, and it meant me and my siblings never quite feeling close to my dad (though we never doubted we were loved). Her coming out, and being able to understand and see her as she truly is has meant the world to my family and I wish that safety and joy for every trans person.
