      Conservatives: The problem with this country is we are no longer able to build without miles of red tape

      Also Conservatives: We don’t want to build this project, there needs to be more red tape to protect private property owners that would be effected.

      Remember when Poilievre did his YouTube videos in 2022/2023 about how housing is difficult to build because there’s too many NIMBY’s and too much red tape? I wonder what that Poilievre would think about the Poilievre of today.

      Sad how Conservatives only care about bulldozing the opponents of certain projects when it comes to contentious oil pipelines. Him and his party cheered on enthusiastically when the government expropriated land for TMX and built it over the opposition of BC.

      Why bother building anything in this country due to costs and private property then if using that for a justification. You would think economic stimulus projects using Canadian workers and materials would be supported by the conservatives.

      Not like that. We must cater to the community NIMBies and environmental activists if it is a project we don’t like.

      This is what Canadian politics brings us. One government develops a project, even pays for most of it, then the new government cancels it, and starts something else.

      Meanwhile nothing gets built, ever.

      Think about all those land owners who already deal with trains in their backyards and would then have to deal with slightly different trains in their backyards!

      Or those oil and gas companies who won’t be able to sell you fuel at $2/L so they can buy their 14th yacht!

      And think about poor, poor Poilievre! If the rail gets built, then all of that ~~bribe~~ lobby money he got will dry up, and how’s he supposed to support his family on just the salary of the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada?

      Going to raves in Montreal might be viable if I can take HSR from Toronto. Chris Liberator was there last month but all of the options to get there from London were shitty and expensive. The fact that there are flights in the corridor is a policy failure.

      I have no idea if that realistic or not, since I don’t live in the area, but Canada needs to build things like this.

      Edmonton- Calgary – Banff rail for instance

      I too share concerns about this being an expensive Liberal boondoggle given the last ten years.

      Even though I will probably never ride this line in my lifetime, we absolutely need this and more.

      Cancelling this would be so short sighted. Once completed it will have so many knock on effects like making air travel cheaper

      Based on the urban-rural divide in support for the project, this is just PP playing politics. He knows that rural communities favour CPC so hearing the party leader echo their opinions will resonate.

      The HSR line is needed and overdue. At the same time, having gone to a number of community meetings that Alto has held, I really don’t have any confidence in their plan and the proposed routes. For example, I live along the Ottawa to Peterborough stretch and when Alto representatives were asked about dealing with the many lakes along the route they were stunned. Could not provide a straight answer, as if they hadn’t even considered it. Then they finally mentioned building pillars to traverse the lakes. I have doubts those pillars were parts of their initial cost estimates. Makes you wonder how accurate any of their numbers are.

      Conservatives apparently have no ability or interest in creating nation building projects that progress us.

      I mean I know it’s in the name, but it baffles me every time how unwilling they are to stray from the status quo. I guess that’s why Pierre found it so hard to support pivoting away from the US, he just really really hates change. Which is a terrible quality in a leader, especially in today’s global political climate

      Nah, fuck this. They need to build this train. I am so sick of Canada’s backwards-ass infrastructure. This benefits all Canadians but once again aloud NIMBY minority tries to stop progress in this country (and I’m specifically talking about people in eastern ontario protesting this). Complaining that a 60m wide track with an electric train is going to destroy the countryside. Pisses me off so bad.

      Wow so hard to build one high speed train. China Japan has high speed rail everywhere, especially China -300 to 400 km/h.

      I like the idea of a more affordable transit system from Toronto into Quebec.  I dislike driving in Toronto and if I had a means of traveling from Toronto to Quebec that was affordable it would save money . This would benefit many people.  Not everyone has a car or wants to drive.  Taking a cab isn’t affordable for many.

      Without reading it, let me guess. PP wants high speed rail cancelled because Quebec won’t allow a pipeline.

      Canada desperately needs more high speed rail. 

      Carney doesn’t need to do anything and PP will continue to destroy the CPC.
