Good on him , let’s get the work done rather than playing politics – if other parties don’t work collaboratively it will be on them
It in many ways, this plays into his „no games“ schtick. There’s a pretty obvious partisan reason to do it (get a majority on committees and ease the process of passing legislation), but if other parties are cooperating, there isn’t a real reason to do it. Prorogation ends the Parliamentary session, and all legislative bills in progress from the previous session have to be restarted in a new session. Prorogation slows things down, and it’s not necessary in a House of Commons that is passing legislation without much issue. So, Carney is at least holding to true to his word on non-partisanship and the collegial persona he’s developed so far.
Thank god. The progress of the 10000 government bills won’t be reset for the mild convenience of not having to amend the standing orders. I bet this was the work of some staffers in MacKinnon’s office or the PMO, and Carney was genuinely surprised when the news came out. In hindsight, It didn’t make much sense that such a roll-up-sleeves PM would be willing to tolerate a speed bump like this to his parliamentary agenda
Hes not going to prorogue after everything it took for bill C-9 to pass the house.
He really can’t go wrong either way. It would be completely defensible to reset parliament after a material change to its composition. We’re used to 20 years of ridiculously prolonged prorogations but it doesn’t have to have to be that way, pretty sure they could reset and come back within days.
It’s another in a series of Conservative boogiemen that have come up lately…
„Carney is calling an election again!“
No he isn’t.
„Carney is going to Prorogue Parliament!“
No he isn’t…
It would honestly be getting tiresome if PP’s influencer based stupidity model wasn’t already exhausting as is.
This doesn’t not make sense, why get a majority if you are not gonna use it. here’s to another useless and unproduction session then.
