More Trump tax. Seems like peace negotiations (or we have won the war) are going so well!

This tanker was going to China.
I’m suspicious that the United States is incentivized to allow Hormuz to remain disrupted to prevent the oil from going to China.
Especially considering that the two are in an AI race, which is bottlenecked by energy and infrastructure.
The US has already put constraints on semiconductors and talent moving to China, and since China is the largest importer on Earth with 20% of their energy coming from oil, I see this as a “we bleed but you bleed faster” type of situation which incentivizes keeping Hormuz closed.

Yep, the USA is very much winning!

It’s ironic to me that Iran closing the strait is exactly the „rule of the jungle“ worldview that trump and hegseth were espousing last month, the idea that military power is the only true law. At the time they said it with the bold assumption that nobody could dethrone the US military but here we are, turns out rule of the jungle can be very imbalanced. violence can be very cheap to threaten and safety almost infinitely expensive to guarantee. Who woulda thought

America spending years telling everyone how powerful they are and how weak everyone else is in comparison, only to get absolutely handled by Iran the first time they get into a fight without Europe to save them. If MAGA lived in the same reality as everyone else, this would be absolutely humiliating, but luckily for them they live in a make believe world where this is a great play and is going really well.

All of this could have been avoided because of one simple fact.
THE STRAIT WASN’T CLOSED IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!

This incident perfectly illustrates the nightmare of asymmetric warfare. It costs billions to maintain a carrier strike group and „guarantee“ safety in the Gulf, but it costs Iran almost nothing to send a few drones or missiles to set a tanker ablaze. We are learning the hard way that when you dismantle international norms in favor of a „rule of the jungle“ approach, you lose the moral and legal standing to stop others from doing the exact same thing. Safety is now almost infinitely expensive to maintain.

And the US bombed one of Iran’s largest pharmaceutical companies, leaving the Iranian people without many medicines; now they are readily available.

The enemy gets a vote, and it turns out Iran can punch above its weight class. Iran is playing a it’s hand very well and is taking advantage of the complete incompetence of this administration.
