    1. Everyone is and will be using tools to summarize thoughts, and that will come with some accidental plagiarism.
Even not using tools, we get inspired subconsciously all the time and it flows into the work we produce.

This will be a common occurrence going forward and you can’t fire everyone.

I rather have sporadic AI articles in a newspaper, than the perpetual dumpster fire that is their opinion section. I’m sure a well edited ai assisted article can be of interest than “Hillary the Hawk, Donald the Dove”.

    3. Nice to see the NYT take appropriate action. To save you a click, it looks like a freelance book reviewer just ChatGPT’d a review, which was discovered due to it being (hilariously) too-strangely-similar to a another book review published in The Guardian. This is the literal definition of AI slop, and of course the NYT should cut all ties with this reviewer.

The NYT says „We don’t use AI to write articles“ and I respect that. Also, this is not a NYT journalist or employee, but a freelancer.

Comment section is either made of:

      1. Loud minority whose brains are addicted to AI and can’t take any sort of criticism for the LLMs they are addicted to

      2. Bots set up by AI companies to also try to control social media when AI is criticized

lmao the amount of coping by people who clearly use AI to help them write is disturbing in this thread.

Using AI to write for you when that is the WHOLE PURPOSE of what you are doing is fraudulent. Who cares what AI thinks. Using AI to write is like willfully plagiarizing from a mystery lootbox for content but because you don’t know where it’s pulling from it’s „ok“. It’s not okay. If you were given the choice of picking between two books of a similar subject matter, one was authentically written with zero AI, and another used AI, I’m guessing I know which one you’d rather give your money to.
