Very tragic, right after Avi Lewis won the leadership race. I wonder if it is true that you can yourself to survive for an important event and after that event, you die.

He held on just long enough to see his son win and become NDP leader. Wholesome. A life very well lived. RIP.

Sad news. 🙁
May his memory be a blessing.

The timing makes it more tragic. But is very sad regardless. He did good work on AIDS/HIV.

A great leader, and a great New Democrat. “Not in my time, but maybe in yours.”

A profound loss. I can only imagine the emotional weight and pressure it must have been for Lewis to run for leader under these circumstances. RIP.

Incredible leader. Amazing that he was able to hold on to see Avi win the NDP leadership.
Sad to see him pass away especially right after Avi won the leadership.
He was a good person through and through I know even his rivals like Bill Davis and John Robarts both liked and respected massively. He was one of the more impactful ONDP leaders outside of Rae and forced Davis to compromise on a lot of policy which benefited Ontario.

Was inspiring to see Stephen Lewis protesting last year [in his old riding](https://www.instagram.com/p/DKSxNYLzVLv/?img_index=4) (at 87 years old!).
Wow
