    1. This! The initial writings she made which she was charged on were dropped. Later on she wrote that homosexuality was a medical disease and this is the reason why she was condemned. Nothing to do with the bible or religion.

Her supporters are trying to twist this into a „she was convicted for quoting the Bible“ case, which is a blatant lie: she was charged for more than one thing, and the one about the Bible didn’t pass on any level of justice. She was seen to have abused her position of authority (being a member of parliament, plus being educated as a doctor) to spread false, inflammatory claims about a group of people, suggesting homosexuality can be „treated“ etc.

Visiting the United States some weeks or maybe months ago, she left local Christians in the belief that European Christians are being persecuted. But she’s literally a member of parliament, only convicted based on spreading harmful lies, not for religious views.

I wouldn’t be surprised if, in certain US media-  and in the mouths of Trump and Vance- this Finnish MP gets turned into a political prisoner, persecuted for her views.

And that would become the grounds for new sanctions and higher tariffs on Finnish goods, and maybe even the entire EU.

    4. No politician in secular society should quote bible. If s/he choose to believe in this particular brand of fairy tails, it is private business of this person. But being elected official is public duty and the politician has to work for his/here constituents… and not all of them drink the same flavor of cool aid … and most don’t need big brother in the sky watching over to go through life as a decent person.

Not to mention that being a doctor what she was doing is effectively lying in public.

At what point are people going to get sick of this sickness infesting politics. So fucking sick of us being „represented“ by the absolute worst gutter scumbags among us

    6. I mean , I don’t think that homosexuality is a disorder but it was classified as such until 1990 by the world health organization. That MP was alive at the time.

I don’t want to put a precedent for new scientific discoveries being forced by law. It Invalides all the scientific studies on the subject.

Kinda sad that people don’t realise that censoring speech won’t make hate go away, only amplify it while simultaneously making it harder to detect.

    8. I disapprove of what she said, but I will defend her right to say it. What she said falls under the freedom of speech, which is a human right.

Ms. Räsänen’s antics just run and run. She seems not to grasp that while she is at perfect liberty to have her own ideas what’s right and wrong and while no one is making her to do anything that she thinks is wrong, it’s a two way street. I foresee her being in trouble with the law on and off for rest of her life.

    10. Good on Finland. Wish more countries would try and combat these facists and „white/christian genociders“.

This is laughable. It’s not a crime here to damage someone’s car in a parking lot and run away but this is.
She wouldn’t have been convicted in US.

Freedom of speech was one of the things that separated us from Russia. Not sure if we have it anymore.

    12. I don’t agree with her in the slightest (I am gay myself) however I do not understand why she has been convicted of a crime unless she has physically harassed people. It’s a very dangerous route to charge people for their opinions.

Why is there no sanity middle ground no more? it is either people who dont know what a woman is or islamist sharia. wtf is everyone doing. they destroy everything

    14. chobolicious88 on

But why does everyone have a problem with this idea, if it can be proven.

Im a pretty non standard neurodivergent person with complex sexuality and all findings point towards:
      Development > gender/identity > sexuality pipeline.

Whole lot of trans people have ND which is a neurodevelopmental condition, meaning the brain didnt actually develop normally/fully.
And ofcourse it impacts the sense of self as well as sexuality.

Not saying thats the case for (all) homosexual people, but why do people get triggered even by the idea itself

    15. It’s very worrying to see that one can be condemned for an opinion; we must be wary of this drift because we are approaching a totalitarian, authoritarian, and violent world.
      It’s frightening for the future.
We have never been closer to obscurantism than with these people who convicted her.

    16. I wholeheartedly disagree with their view, I know my being gay not a disorder. But this is a little too close to speech police for my taste.

    17. Charlesinrichmond on

I’m pro-homosexual but also pro-free speech, so this seems pretty appalling.

Call her an idiot. Don’t convict her.

This thread is too inflammatory. Just say you disagree and move on.
