> “I had an audition once, and it was a callback, and I went into the room, and I shook everyone’s hand and introduced myself. Then I did the scene, and I left,” Johnson said. “The feedback I got was that because I had gone and introduced myself and shook everyone’s hand is that I was pompous. That I was schmoozing, and I was full of myself, and I was like: ‘What?’ I didn’t get the job because they said that I was being cocky, but I just had manners… It was pretty crazy.”
I’ve been on plenty of auditions, and it’s never once crossed my mind to shake hands with everyone in the room. That’s not what you do at auditions. And though actors will need to say their names when they do a slate for the camera, there’s no need to introduce themselves to everyone there. The people in the room already know who they are.
How many were in the room? 3 or 35?
Or else maybe she’s just not that good of an actress?
It’s a common practice with the intention to show confidence and outgoingness. Is it cringe? Sure. But it’s not something that should be held against anyone
I’m sure she’s a nice enough person but her acting skills are on par with a can of paint.
Can we make shaking hands illegal
It might be because she’s not a good actress.
Are we sure it wasn’t because she can’t act?
Eeeehhhh idk typically auditions are very sterile environments and can feel cold/uncaring but it’s more that actors are usually one of the last, smaller pieces of the puzzle. Those auditors probably saw 100 people that day and you can imagine shaking everyone’s hand, doing small talk all for a 30 second take on camera is wildly unnecessary. There’s a lot of jokes about how awful auditions feel because the actors experience is very vulnerable and the casting is picking through the litter. It isn’t the best but I think Dakotas intentions came off as superficial because everyone probably knew her and what she needed to do. It’s often better to nail the audition as it stands than try and do anything extra. Auditioning is also remarkably fickle and it kind of comes across that she doesn’t have much experience with it if this incident bothers her. I knew an amazing actress who auditioned for a broadway play over a dozen times and kept getting rejected because she was a Virgo and the company’s astrologist said her energy didnt align lol
Basically felt she was trying too hard
Hollywood is not a real place. Lmao. Sheesh.
Maybe she was pompous because the next girl came in and blew everyone.
There should an entire news story about every audition.
Dakota Johnson is one of the most flat actors who keeps landing gigs and I don’t understand it.
Also I’ve seen interviews where she’s so out of touch with life of regular people it wouldn’t surprise me if she’s blind to how she comes off.
Her career seems to have worked out pretty well in the end
I’ve worked in this industry in the past. People in high places will find anything to use against you.
Maybe nobody had the heart to tell her she’s completely devoid of talent so they came up with a cover story…
I’m shocked it wasn’t for her acting
She would fit in backstage at WWE
She’d have been better off curtsying and texting them later. /s
I don’t understand. Why would they care if she was schmoozing or not?
Don’t they want the best person for the part, irrespective of anything else?
Or, do they factor in how difficult they might be to work with?
I’ve gotten the opposite advice: greet everyone and be nice.
She probably dodged a bullet on that one.
Would a male actor been given the same treatment?
Probably not. Women actresses get such a shitty rap for just being themselves.
I hate shaking hands and I usually feel like people that do are main charactery. It’s such an outdated bro thing as far as I’m concerned.
