Best album of the year already.
Best voice
This whole album is insane. Finishing my second listen as I write this. Best Believe/Face To Face/Spit It Out/Black Halo are top tier. So so good. All others songs are really good too. Honestly the title might be one of my least favorites on there, while also still being a fun title track song. Very impressed. Going on my album of the year list for sure.
Black Halo .. all I gotta say wow
Really liked the MV but loving the b sides even more, my faves so far are black halo, MTV, wasteland and best believe. Face to face is growing on me too.
I hope she does a bside MV too or is that too much to ask from SM
My girl doesn’t miss. Good stuff right here.
i like the songs a lot, but what’s with the shrinkflation? calling it a full album with only 10 songs 😭
now this is an album!
You have to believe me when I say that this album is phenomenal.
I took my car and went driving by the beach as zi typically do to listen to a new album. It fitted so good with the drive. And I was screaming at every song for how good it was lmao There are so many flavors and yet it is cohesive af. Not a filler track, no boring songs. Just great melodies, cool beats, great taste in producing, Irene’s lovely and soothing voice (you can hear her growth at every new project).
I was puzzled by everyone liking different songs after the highlight medley (which I decided not to listen before the album release) but now I understand why. The quality is just so high, every track is a 10.
Honestly it could be a Red Velvet ot5 album. This is how good it is. It made me wanna dance, it made me feel emotional, it kept me impressed over and over.
Biggest Fan is super fun. Best Believe lives in the same universe of Rainbow Halo to my ears. Face To Face could have been an amazing track on Fifth Harmony’s 7/27. Million Miles Away as Irene said could have easily been the tt (most of the songs could have tbh). Black Halo could be a Beyonce song and it should have been a 5 minutes track at least. Wasteland is a brilliant closing to a perfect album.
Like A Flower was very good but I feel like SM was tasting the waters and trying different things with Irene with her 1st mini. But this is IT. This is the best album they could have made for Irene.
As someone said Irene’s music surprisingly incarnates Red Velvet music more than any other member (they’re all amazing eh and they all have their thing going on which I love).
Even if you don’t care for RV and/or Irene but you do like POP give this album a listen. Trust me
Loved Face to Face into Million Miles
This album is SO good, wow. My favourite b-sides so far are Million Miles Away (nu-disco you will always be famous), Black Halo, Face to Face, and Don’t Wanna Get Up, but I’m loving the other tracks too!!
This album made me realise how much I miss Red Velvet releases :’) I hope we get more releases from them this year!! Honestly, I would’ve loved to have seen some of these tracks as Irene and Seulgi unit songs actually, as I think Seulgi’s voice would’ve suited a lot of them too. (I think I’m just wanting a Seulgi comeback too lmao)
pretty solid! i actually feel like „biggest fan“ is the weakest song on the album. it’s a perfect concept for a title track, but i feel like it just doesn’t showcase any versatility in her vocals and never really goes anywhere. i really liked the mv though!! & the b-sides definitely gave me what i was wanting in terms of vocals. i think my favorite is actually „spit it out“ with „love can make a way“ and „don’t wanna get up“ as a close joint second..but „million miles away“ is also so good..
The entire album will be in my rotation for a while. Face to Face gave me full body chills for 3.5 minutes
AOTY candidate for me
For the title track I don’t like it as much as Like A Flower (which I adored), it’s a little too repetitive and would benefit from more… dynamic range? Variety? Even when it mixes things up it doesn’t feel like its straying far from where it just was.
Some of these B-sides though, goddamn! **Million Miles Away**? *chefs kiss* I don’t think this is a million miles* removed from Biggest Fan but it totally works for me, her vocals are just doing more interesting things here and it has more of a progression to it. My favourite track of the album, hands down.
**Spit It Out** feels like it could be a Irene & Seulgi track. Solid. I’d also say the same of **Black Halo** though I like that even more. Very cool vibe.
**MTV (My Timeless Video)** is a nice, breezy track. I can practically see the sunshine and wind in the hair if there was an MV for this. I was expecting more in the way of this from Irene after Like A Flower.
I’ll definitely take **Wasteland** over the standard SM mandatory slow closer ballad. Real vibey again, the sort of thing you’d give a visualizer of lightly animated driving a coastal highway at twilight.
In general a solid album, but there’s something about the mixing that sometimes feels like it just doesn’t go far enough. On some of these tracks I wish the bass hit harder, the quiet moments were quieter, the intense points stood out more – I just wanna grab the first 4 tracks from either end and stretch them out (Is there a mixing equivalent to a contrast slider?).
At first I wondered if these headphones are just getting too old (they are) but going back and forth between this and some other albums it reminds me of at times (Irene&Seulgi’s Tilt, Red Velvet’s Chill Kill, Taylor Swift’s Midnights) there’s something that’s just not quite reaching those heights for me. Except Million Miles Away. Fuck that track is good. Absolutely premo.
^^*Pun ^^very ^^much ^^intended
