Part of my childhood going away. Remember running to the Beast Wars section as a 8-9 year old.
🥺
We went to a remaining one in QC and it was just boring. Everything is so focused on adults, large lego impossible for less than 10yrs old to do. IPs popular for Millenials/Genz in Cards, dolls are all branded and fancy and pricey..
I don’t think it can survive based off the fact toys have changed.
It’s not 199x where Toy Story came out, internet isn’t widespread and Buzz Lightyear is the impossible toy to find… toys are everywhere and kids give not shit about Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 5.
Sad part is, kids dont really play with toys anymore, they are addicted to cell phones and i pads since the day they can hold one.
Unfortunately, any toy gets quickly tossed aside a few minutes after being opened on Christmas morning, and my little cousin goes straight for the iPad once again to play Roblox until lunch time, uninterrupted.
The longevity of any toy is pretty much dead so I am not surprised.
What a shame but the writings been on the wall for a while. Apparently the Toys R US in Nanaimo BC hasn’t paid utilities or lease in months. I hate to see a piece of my childhood die out but the company has been in dire condition for years.
The one here in Newfoundland just closed. Kind of surreal actually. Window shopped there a lot as a child, and that would turn into shopping there for my own children, especially around the holidays.
In the days leading to the close, the wait times in line to buy things on huge clearance sales climbed up to over 1-2 hours.
I’d be lying if I didn’t mention the fact that my wife and I knew the end was coming for that location, because even during Christmas, which was only a few months back, the stores hours did not extend for holiday shopping. Closed at 6:00. It sucked.
