  1. Why the fuck is your life insurance dependent on your job? What kind of dystopian bullshit is this?

Almost like a state provided social safety net, would be a good thing and could literally save lives.

But Americans decided they would rather have GoFundMe campaigns as social security, like in some cyberpunk dystopia.

  3. People blaming Epic, but I don’t think they were super selective with this.

Rather look at the laws which makes insurance reliant on employment… That’s the true travesty.

  4. No you guys, the enemy are those poor brown people in the desert! Not the overlord with their foot on your throat.

  5. Cue Tim Sweeney’s Thanos style speech about dispassionate layoffs and the remaining grateful employees

  6. I mean they layed off over 1000 people – they had no way to dive into everyone’s personal life.

This is a problem with our healthcare system unfortunately, not Epic.

Edit: Mis-read the article, life insurance tied to employer is terrible.

Large shareholders do need to be able to buy another yacht and join exclusive country clubs. It’s the American dream.

  8. Ah yes, his layoff was completely: „performance related“ or his whole team didn’t align with Epic’s financial „future“. Absolute scum.

  9. Not really personal lol everyone’s got their own shit. You guys expect EPIC to cater to everyone’s personal story. Fortnite isn’t as big anymore, of course there will be layoffs

We have to work to „earn“ health insurance, which we need in case we get terminally ill, but we get fired if we get terminally ill and lose our insurance. It’s the perfect healthcare system; they get all your money, and you die.

  11. This isn’t new… This is happening every day in everyone industry and yes, you should be mad.

Health should not be tied to employment.

Yet, most of guys on here still play their game.. just stop playing their stupid free to play game already to protest

I’m not defending Epic at all.

But this is an important life lesson for all Americans: **get life insurance independently from your work.**

Yeah I was laid off three weeks after finishing stage 3 cancer treatment. I still have to go every 6 months for testing to make sure it doesn’t come back. But at least my job was nice enough to give me 1 year of health care coverage, life insurance, etc.

It is still stupid that America Durant have universal health care, and screw epic for doing this to the family.

  15. The best part of living in America, when you stop maximizing shareholder value they can just discard you with zero recourse. In fact its their fiduciary duty to do so.

If you have a problem with this, you should be 100% against private insurance, because that’s the actual cause of this. People losing their insurance that they desperately need because they lost their job happens every single day.

  17. I know we all need jobs…the capitalist way and all that

But I wish people would use their critical thinking skills…or the remnant of them, stop working for scumbag companies

    Have some integrity,

The sooner people stop supporting scumbag business, the sooner they die, they’ll care when it hits their pockets….that’s the ONLY time these organisations will care

Stand for something or die for nothing ….

And its all because of Gabe Newell, Steam lootbox, and monopoly, and DEFINITELY, not because Swiney is a piece of shit, and Epic games is a massive pile of garbage.

  19. Electrik_Truk on

I feel for the guy, but this highlights more of an issue with the health insurance failures of the US than anything else. You should not lose insurance because you get laid off.

  20. Epic is garbage. Thats is why I refused to even redeem their free games. If witcher 4 is going to have exclusivity for epic in time of release, anyhow I love that franchise, there is no way I am going to buy it there

    Don’t worry

In America your health is tied to your employment so if and when you get sick you get fired so you’re not a drain on your former employer

THEN you get to go online and post asking regular people for money to keep you alive

    USA USA USA

I’m of the mind that corporate boards deserve the death penalty when things like this happen.

That is to say…all the time.

  23. Starship_Taru on

I’ve got nothing against the Saudis, but why on earth are we allowing wealthy foreigners to buy up American companies and lay off workers?

    Build your own damn industry

    The American Dream strikes again.
A reminder this isn’t even an issue in other first world countries. Having healthcare tied to your employer is barbaric.
