If they stop arming proxies all over the middle east and swear to respect the peace of all their neighbors I’d let them have this. If.

    3. On one hand I think why shouldn’t Iran charge, and on the other hand, we’re increasing their power and leverage even more over that area…and it’ll certainly drive up prices even more. I’m conflicted.

The orange man has helped the Iranians realise an opportunity 🤦‍♀️

Let’s call this what it is: a pay-to-play peace deal. Iran knows that the global economy is hurting from shipping disruptions and high energy prices. By demanding „billions“ to „end the war,“ they are essentially putting a price tag on stability. The problem is that once you pay a country to stop being aggressive, you’ve just proven that aggression is a profitable business model.

So Iran DID have a 15-point plan? Looks like they did their homework, unlike Trump.

The US could end it tomorrow by offering a grovelling apology and offering Iran billions in reparations. It was an American choice to start the war and it’s an American choice not to end the war.

So what‘ the Trump era equivalent of „Thanks, Obama“?

Because helping Iran test the proof of concept over how much power they have to disrupt the global economy by launching a poorly conceived war against them with no apparent plan to counter that concept – despite it being one of the most obvious weapons available to Iran – really feels like it should be earning Trump a special level of derision.

The whole ‚they CAN’T do that, it’s ILLEGAL‘ argument doesn’t really hold much ground to me when we’re out there doing stuff like drone striking elementary schools and timing out the strikes for optimal damage

    9. While what Iran is proposing might be illegal under international laws, perhaps more concerning, and needing of more exposure and condemnation, are the mass violations and humanitarian crimes being conducted by both the U.S. and Israel in the Middle East! Not only that, you only have to look at the discriminative and punitive laws that are being imposed within the U.S. itself to see that Trump and his cohorts have absolutely no respect for anyone, or anything, but themselves. Tolls on the Strait of Hormuz are minor issues by comparison.

    10. So turns out Iran letting 10 ships through was proof they could control the militias. I understand now why it was so exciting for the Trump administration to see the proof, now trump Putin and Iran can charge bullshit fees

Typical Trumpian big brain moment. Piss off the Iranians needlessly with a plan so bad it’s actually empowered and emboldened them.

      [Granger] What an idiot! [/Granger]

    12. >Iran has been a little taken aback by how successful its (Hormuz) strategy has been – by how cheap and how comparatively easy it is to hold the global economy hostage

Well their opponent made a huge mistake, then voted the mistake back in

„Washington is acutely aware of that risk.“ Their dumb asses weren’t particularly aware before they started the war, unfortunately.

    14. “Iran has long threatened to close the strait in case of an attack, but few expected it to follow through – or for it to prove so effective in disrupting global trade flows.”

Few expected it would follow through and disrupt the economy? Sure, CNN.

I hate CNN so much. Everyone knew they would close the strait. Thats why the US didnt attack them despite Israel wanting this war for decades.
