      Good piece – while I support the secularism goal pursued by Québec, I don’t agree when it veers into infringing individual rights where the individual’s right does not affect others.

      Deciding that the Notwithstanding clause is necessary is a clear sign that a bill has gone too far.

      Bullshit article.

      The author conviently ignore the fact that getting rid of religion in a society takes a while. It’s a really tough job, because it’s like a cancer that contaminates every part of the society, there is a lot of resistance.

      It’s an evolution done through generations, where every generation reduce their level of religious and where you get to a point where you are ready to remove another layer. And every time the society is ready to push aside religion a little more, it’s the same exact arguments done every time.

      But hey, it’s the Gazette, it’s the Fox News of anglophones.

      La laïcisation (stu un mot ca?) du Québec est un processus qui s’est enclenché lors de la Révolution Tranquille. Lorsqu’on porte attention, on remarque que pratiquement tous les gouvernements de la province ont progressivement changé les règles de financement, contenu éducationnel, règles de toponymie, etc. Donc, bien d’accord avec l’auteur, à l’exception qu’il ne réfère aucunement à ce mouvement allant au delà de la politique identitaire. Les accommodements raisonnables n’étaient pas un épisode non plus. Ça se vit dans le tissu familial, ce qui semble visiblement échapper à l’auteur. Élever ses enfants dans la religion ou non est un sujet bien plus abordé depuis 30 ans.

      Là où ça chie, c’est la CAQ qui arrive avec un coup de massue avec sa loi 21. C’est un processus qui se doit d’être lent, generationnellement lent et ils ont enfreint cette règle.

      Had to fight the CAQ to remove the crucifix from the National Assemby while they were banning religious symbols. When they do it it’s „historical significance“.

      I’m still waiting for the cross on our flag to be removed. Oh, and the blue colour which represents the Virgin Mary…
