Route 52 Ballina to Galway
Bus Eireann claims its due to significant financial losses.
I wont comment on the 40 or 52 as im unfamiliar with them.
The 4 will be a huge loss I reckon. For Carlow residents it will leave JJ Kavanagh as the only bus going to the airport. The trains to Dublin are already packed to the gills.

The crazy thing is they cannot even spin it for PR purpose announcing new routes or expanded coverage with the buses they will free up.
Wexford Bus covers some of those routes. Guess there’s not enough to go around.

Still it might add traffic to Waterford airport 😉

Bit of a pain if your using the Dublin Rosslare bus, you’ll have to switch to Wexford Bus in Wexford.

Maybe an opportunity to fund early morning local link buses into the train stations. First Waterford to Dublin train is at 5.30am, first bus gets to Waterfors at around 7.45am. Bus Eireann shutting the Dublin Galway route was also a disaster

The inevitable outcome is that bus eireann stop doing these routes because of competition, then the private company immediately limits the service and people lose out. But somehow that’s fine

The whole point of the 40 was effectively a route from Tralee to London, it won’t function like that now.
With the 4 stopping due to JJ and the green bus, it could take 1 more competitor to put the 40 to Cork in trouble

Absolutely pissed about the 52, such a major loss for nost university students in Mayo. Citylink runs so few services and none to Ballina.

Any other western country would have trains connecting the south east and we have to make do with fewer and fewer buses. The transport system is increasingly focussed around a singular city in Ireland. Wexford should even have multiple bus services to the likes of Kilkenny, Carlow direct also. Weekly user of the 40 service myself, it’s a sickener. Wexford Bus doesn’t suit half as well, with connecting buses i needed. It was €16 for a hours trip on Bus Eireann and i wasnt even that bothered, even though the price was very high.Â

This is privatisation of some of the busiest routes in the country. I took the Carlow to Dublin. It’s consistently packed and frequently sold out. And they’re rolling over for jj kavanagh to provide a slower, less frequent, more expensive route. Toryism from FFFG at it’s most balance blatantÂ
