The UK grew about 461.6 percent between 1710 and 1900, while France grew 77.8 percent in the same time period.

There were two specific events between those two years that affected France far more that it affected the UK.
So I reckon that those had something to do with the lack of growth during that period.
The most remarkable is the United Kingdom having 7.3 m inhabitants 90 years before its founding.
