It’s kinda dangerous horseshit. Not because Israelis aren’t doing this, but rather because ‚real estate capture‘ does not restrict itself to particular nationalities (in Cyprus Israelis are outpaced by Russians anyway), and framing it in such terms obfuscates the broader problem of tax regimes that are far too accommodating to foreign capital, and end up excluding locals from the market.

Other countries, like New Zealand, have long recognized this as a problem and moved in with substantial restrictions. When I lived in London, it was Russians, Saudis and so on buying up huge developments like Centrepoint, leaving them to sit empty, and flipping them every couple of years as they appreciated regardless.

For the avoidance of any misinterpretation, yes, Israel is an imperialist proxy for the US, and yes, what happened in Gaza is a genocide–but Russian oligarchs are not minded differently, and you do not have to choose between two varieties of turd. I don’t know about Cyprus but the part about buying Greek islands is Turkish propaganda that is spread even on Greek media. This was suggested in 2022 by Avri Steiner, not by the Israeli government, but was described as a „sureal and impractical plan“ and was rejected. It also wasn’t planned as a settlement but in the case of an emergency. This is done to undermine the alliance of Greece, Cyprus and Israel.

Not so long ago there was a video posted on this sub about supossed corruption of Cyrpus politicians posted by a Twitter account, but in the end it was discovered that it was Turkish propagand and the video subtitles had Turkish letters but noone made a post about it afterwards.

I guess I’m staying the obvious but this is how the Zionist started in Palestine, innocently buying property. And it would make sense for Zionist to have a plan B in a close by EU country.

The whole „Turkish“ or „Russian“ propaganda bit is irrelevant since the bottom line is that Cyprus and Greece need to do something about foreign capital buying property in mass, it’s stupid regardless of who’s buying but it’s SPECIALLY STUPID when the buyers belong to a colonialist ideological group that used the same tactic to displace an entire people right in front of the noses of everybody else.
