    1. Translation: Tariffs and rising hardware costs due to AI data centers have made it less profitable to sell at current price.

    2. Most of the American gamers voted for this so blame them.

I didn’t vote for this. We should have declared war on the 3000 billionaires in the world, not Iran.

    3. Ignoring the fact that one lunatic is driving chaos in this world, these price hikes are enormous.

      I mean we’re talking about a PS5 pro that launched at $649.99 in the US now being sold for $899.99. That’s a $250 hike – 38%!

It’s blowing my mind because Sony’s math is telling them that they may find it possible to sell 13 consoles for every 18 they sold before the hike just to maintain status quo. And I just don’t see that happening now.

Edit: as u/wovengrsnite192 correctly pointed out, it launched at $699.99 not $649.99. Point still stands though. 7 consoles need to sell for every 9 they used to sell before, still an uphill task.

    4. Man it’s crazy how prices this gen have gone up over time. This is like the 3rd price increase? 4th?

It’s insane that consoles are now getting more expensive as they age rather than reducing in price. There’s not much incentive to hold off getting one if you’re interested, in the past you would usually get a good discount with a few games included a few years after release.

Glad I snapped up a ps5 during Christmas sale

It was 20% off at Best Buy at the time!

    7. Remember when tech used to get cheaper as it aged…. at this point my launch PS5 is going to end up outperforming my investment portfolio lmao

    8. This whole console generation is crazy. It is the first generation in which it is cheaper to buy a console at launch than years later.

*heads to the pawn shop* Yeah you guys still got those used ones for like $350?

I bought my PS5 years ago from a scalper. that transaction is now cheaper than the current price. Wild.

    11. I’m going to get priced out of my primary hobby. Absolute insanity.

Just like everything else that has inflated, these are not temporary prices. This is the new norm, even after all this chaos settles.

Let me correct myself. IF all this chaos ever settles.

      Legit furious about this.

I could pay that much, or I could pay for a somewhat attractive lady of the night for a couple of hours… I think I know what I will do.

    13. I think it’s time to sell my ps5. Used it for a week to play ff7. Now it’s just collecting dust while I use the PC I built recently

I know it’s still a ways away, but I was thinking about not getting a PS6 at launch for the next generation. Even though I like my PS5 I’m underwhelmed by this generation. In spite of that being said, I may as well get one at launch to avoid any future price hikes! Hopefully things will have settled when that day comes though.

Tariffs, AI and global oil prices have totally broken the traditional electronics cycle, all of this leads to the mad king. The rumours about next generation starting next year just seems insane to me, Switch 2 is showing his price sensitive consumers are and I imagine PS6 would struggle in that environment as well (Xbox seems to be pricing themselves out of mainstream out of choice). They should honestly wait until 2028 with the Sora bubble already popping (AI video was the biggest contribution to the RAM frenzy)

    16. Just bought one from gamestop before they update the price, I was planning on getting one closer to the GTA VI release but the price increase is ridiculous.

    17. Console is ancient hardware at this point.

It used to be that old console hardware got cheaper, now the opposite is true.

    18. Thank you American Conservatives. *Making the world worse for everyone* should be their mantra.

At this point you might as well buy an actual PC setup.

You can get a pretty modest PC for a similar-ish price and do more with it. Especially now Sony is putting more games on Steam there’s kind of no reason to be locked to a console for exclusives anymore.

Interesting since people have less money to spend now. I wonder how that’s gonna work out .

This economy seems like a ticking time bomb to me

At this rate my launch PS5 is going to fund my retirement in 40 years.

So how much can I sell a base ps5 for? Did that also go up by 150?

      Fucking thieving ass motherfuckers
