JVL and Andrew Egger take on a surreal White House briefing where everything is supposedly “going great”—even as TSA chaos, rising gas prices, and a widening Iran conflict tell a very different story. Plus: how JD Vance is getting boxed into a political no-win situation.

  2. WetFinsFine on

well, if you tend to listen to anything Leavitt says thinking there’s a shred of fact or truth to it, ya, you’re an idiot 🤷🏻‍♂️

  3. CheekyDonut- on

Ah yes, the classic „we’re all idiots“ approach perfect for the politician handbook! 🙄

Though it‘s obvious, that she‘s one of the 100 biggest ones.

  5. eerhmahgerd on

I mean …look who she works for. We voted for him. A good portion of people she is talking to are idiots.

  6. Dizzy-Ad-3994 on

it’s literally just their entire strategy at this point tbh. just stand at the podium, gaslight the entire country in broad daylight, and bank on the fact that their base won’t actually fact-check a single word they say ngl.

  7. Responsible_Map_1951 on

Being the press secretary right now basically just requires you to completely detach from reality and treat the american public like actual toddlers dude. the sheer amount of mental gymnastics she has to perform every single day without breaking character is wild tbh.

Everyone in this administration thinks that they are the smartest people in the world.

  9. Kamamura_CZ on

She is only speaking to the 36 or so percent of Americans who are still behind Trump – and yes, they are all mostly idiots. So she is not wrong.

  10. RichardSaunders on

that’s because the country elected trump twice, and the second time around gave him the popular vote as well as the house and senate. so yeah, she’s not wrong in thinking that.

  11. Her press conferences follow s pattern:

Come out really strong for whatever position the White House has at that time.

Establish of press will be combative or appropriate for the day.

If combative, every question that doesn’t relate to the opening monologue, will be met with an accusation about how THE REAL ISSUES, THE REAL ISSUES are mostly immigrants and the crimes they committed in blue states.

    Repeat Repeat Repeat

You voted for this quagmire. Twice. Sorry to say, but for once, she does have a point.

  13. I think she’s an idiot. Every time I see her on television I think here come more lies.

  14. crossdtherubicon on

I don’t think she actually cares. She communicates only what is considered mandatory, and only the bare minimum, so she can plausibly deny withholding information or lying.

I think she performs her responsibilities cynically, to the best of her ability, because she had the opportunity to take a somewhat exclusive and unique job.

I think her performance is cynical because i) she doesn’t indicate that she thinks her job actually has any value or is necessary.

And ii) she is blatant in her anti-democratic and authoritarian beliefs. Those beliefs and values are inherently antithetical to the functioning of her job.

In other words, she doesn’t care but took a glitzy job. She also doesn’t care or is unaware of the irony of her being selected for the job in the first place. She is unqualified in every way, and it’s only emphasized by her own performance in the job. But she’s perfect for the Trump admin’s purposes.

  15. Starting to agree with her. We’re just sitting here watching our country burn down.

  16. EggsAndMilquetoast on

She’s like the emperor from the emperor’s new clothes, except she actually thinks she’s wearing clothes and goes out of her way to be patronizing, condescending, and cruel to anyone who would suggest they can totally see her nips.

And the weirdest part is that she’s the one who’s naked and crazy, and we still engage with her or about her only because she’s the talking head for and even crazier, naked-er emperor.

  17. LordSiravant on

I mean, most of humanity is, or we wouldn’t even be in this situation now.

  18. Is there any real reason to think she’s wrong? We weren’t smart enough to keep Trump and all his sycophants out of power in the first place. It’s on us.

  19. I don’t understand why there aren’t a couple reporters in the room that just straight up call out her gaslighting bullshit and walk out mid briefing on live TV. I think she would falter/crack if that were to happen. Sure someone loses their WH privileges but that’s why you pick the reporter from Horse and Hound as the “sacrifice”

*“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.“*

H.L. Mencken, On Politics: A Carnival of Buncombe (1956)

  21. No, she knows we are idiots. That’s why the electoral and popular vote gave Donald the nuclear codes.

  22. dionpadilla1 on

Karoline Leavitt is the Press Secretary of a SECOND Trump Presidency.

What evidence do you have that the country she is talking isn’t made up of idiots?

  23. I mean, at least half the country are idiots who voted for this, and the other half are lazy complacent fools who are letting their country burn… so I’d call them idiots as well.

So all in all, she’s right.

  24. ThoseOldScientists on

No, she doesn’t think about us at all. She’s performing for an audience of one.

  25. They dont think people are idiots. They have realized they can say and do whatever they want and no one will stop them. The give zero fucks and just say whatever they want. Let’s be honest, if they came out tomorrow and said „we bombed Iran because it sounded like fun“, who would put a stop to it? Not one thing has happened to anyone after that fraction of the epstein files were released, he is blatantly making money hand over fist from rigging the stock market, he invaded Venezuela for their oil and then kept the proceeds from selling their oil, and he has obviously lost his mind. If Biden closed his eyes or fumbled his words a little, they called for him to be impeached.

  26. 2ManyCatsNever2Many on

well – we, collectively speaking, elected them…thus we, collectively speaking, *are* idiots.

  27. Well, the world is waiting for any American to prove her wrong. Americans voted for that mess because eggs were expensive. Let that sink in.

    That’s not a smart person’s move.

  28. Only1Nemesis on

Well, her husband is going to be in diapers when their kids graduate high school. It just shows a running theme with all of this administration: lack of future planning. But we are the idiots.

  29. I mean, we are in this position because a lot of idiots voted for this or decided not to vote at all. So yes, her audience are idiots.

  30. Yes, she does, but she structures her answers for sound bites not coherency. That way Fox can easily craft them into propaganda.
