Trump’s an idiot and a narcissist and has dementia. He doesn’t understand that and is just thinking that if he suppresses enough voters, he’ll win. Anyways, the voter suppression bill isn’t going to pass because it doesn’t have enough support and the GOP isn’t going to risk getting rid of the filibuster.

I’m honestly confused why Trump seems so gung-ho about eliminating vote by mail, especially when the data shows it benefits Republicans.

The save act is bad for American voters, democracy and an affront to the constitution.
Since elections are supposed to be run by states, why don’t all the GOP states pass a state level law to implement voter ID and eliminate mail-in voting?
This entire bill and the saga around it is a clusterfuck. It’s not passing either way atm. I’ve heard they plan on trying to get some of it through reconciliation later. That plan has a host of issues though.
It’s not bad news because it will selectively enforced… They’ll apply it disproportionally in communities of color and liberal areas within red states. They will let red hats just wander in without ID and then they’ll ask for 5 forms with ICE sitting outside for every Hispanic and african american voter.
Never take anything a Republican does on it’s face. Nothing they do is in good faith. This is to give them an easy way to discriminate because they know blue states will apply the law equally giving them a disproportionate advantage.
I feel like this is going to blow up in their faces. Big cities tend to be bluer than rural red areas, with access to more resources to get necessary forms of ID. My mother, a trump voter, had a hard time tracking down her birth certificate just to get her passport in the last 2 years. She’s still never left the country before despite having it now and the time/means to travel. I hope they know they’ll likely:
– Disenfranchise their own voters
– Galvanize blue voters to turn out heavily this year
– Likely strengthen blue voters in major cities, while removing access to red-likely voters in rural areas that they depend on to win.
Mail-in ballots was the secret sauce for Republicans winning for decades. LOL. Let’s kill it!!! Further, how many MAGA have passports? Good luck!!!
They won’t allow that. They want federal oversight so they can enforce the ID rules only in blue cities and states.

It’s important to Trump short term, like getting loans, bankruptcy, rape, getting investors on a con, child rape, selling beans, tearing down the white house, taking a free jet, bankruptcy, child rape, stealing from child cancer charity, fraud, cons, rape, bankruptcy, paying off prostitutes, settling lawsuits, and child rape.
This article starts with the assumption that the SAVE act is designed to encourage a greater share of Republican votes. It seems to me that the SAVE act is designed more to disenfranchise the vote itself and rely on state legislatures to submit their electoral votes themselves instead of through the will of the people.
Just give it up with this bill already. It’s not going to pass

People aren’t understanding the strategy here. It’s not about the SAVE Act.. it’s about raising the specter of voting fraud or invalidity. That’s enough for these people to create a narrative that allows them to steal elections.

There’s more to it. The states would have to turn over all of their unredacted voter rolls and the feds would „purge“ these as they see fit. A month before the midterms, they could remove huge numbers of Democrats in key area and not tell them. They’d show up to vote and find out that they had been unregistered.
What’s wrong with it? For starters, it is built on a stack of lies that Trump has been telling since 2020: that he, not Joe Biden, actually won that year’s election; that there’s massive voter fraud; that every election won by a Democrat is “rigged;” that millions of non-citizens are allowed to vote in every election; and that vote-by-mail is rife with fraud. Countless independent investigations and court challenges have concluded that, no matter what Trump says, not one of those claims is true — not one, not even close.
It’s projection. Every action he takes is a projection.
He votes by mail and commits election fraud, therefore: all voting my mail is fraud.
Wouldn’t this be super bad for republican voters? Is it normal in rural areas to have birth certificates and passports on hand?

They are hoping it won’t be enforced in rural communities where everyone knows the poll workers and vice versa.
The whole SAVE Act is horrible for Republicans. Republican voters are less likely to have proof of citizenship (passport, birth certificate, Real ID) and more than likely to have issues with correct last names since Republican women are more likely then Democratic women to change their last name.
Removing mail in voting reduces the senior vote so Republicans can kiss that goodbye and if voting is reduced to one day, guess who has the most time off to vote? If you guessed college educated professionals, most of whom lean Democratic, you’re correct.
The SAVE Act would destory Republicans chance any electorial success becuase it targets Republican voters.

TBH I was kinda hoping these morons wouldn’t figure that out.
Republicans are the party of uneducated, older, rural voters. People that don’t have a lot of passports, and vote by mail a lot.
Democrats are now the party of educated urban and suburban voters, skew younger, and have a much more ethnically diverse voter base. People who travel more, have more passports, and can find ways to vote in person because they aren’t on death’s door or 30 miles from town.
But, the act still shouldn’t pass because all those old people and people without passports or that don’t live near town all deserve to vote too. Even if they vote wrong in my opinion.
I also truly don’t get it. If this legislation makes passports the gold standard for identity verification, I have to imagine the split between democrat and Republican passport holders heavily favors Democrats. Also, with what’s going on in the world, I would walk a mile over a broken glass to make sure I voted this midterm. I think they are vastly underestimating the anger of the US populous right now.
The selective enforcement will be the point of it all. They will conveniently let things slide for their voters while cracking down hard on Democrats.
Let the Republicans keep their suppression efforts up. Once enough Americans catch on as the nation continues to degrade under the massive harm already inflicted and the continuing escalations of these failures and betrayals, voting won’t matter anymore, only how well they can hide. Conservatives were real fucking stupid to support violations of the fundamental protections of law, since they had applied to everyone.

Overall the math shows this helps Republicans more than Democrats, as it is especially aimed at disenfranchising voting populations that skew left. Notice how even vote by mail has one big exception? Yes, the military skews right and the bill does not call for ending their voting rights.
Also, it’s not out of the question that we’re going to have ice agents at every polling station in America scaring legal voters away due to ice going after minorities who are more likely to vote Democrat.
This article is interesting but the push on the right for this act has everything to do with optics and reducing the number of Democrat aligned voters.
I honestly think it would hurt Republicans. How many MAGA folks have passports? Are they going to go through the process of getting them? Even just getting a new birth certificate is a pain in the butt…
This sounds crazy, but what if they just don’t give back my passport/ birth certificate and arrest me? Those are such crucial documents I don’t carry everywhere and aren’t just sitting around. I don’t want the risk of it being lost or stolen just to vote.
Can’t steal an election without a scapegoat.
