And then, the robots will start asking things of us….
He also said he’d be on Mars by 2030, that he’d build an underground tunnel transportation network across the country, and that he’d identify trillions of dollars of governmental waste.
Instead, he got humiliated for being bad at video games, tried hard to attract a nazi fanbase, and shut down science and medicine investments that were improving health on a global level.
So we don’t really pay any attention to what he says is going to happen anymore.
Of course the man who did nothing but burn money and ruin previously successful companies by diverting them to his vanity pet projects is going to change everything. Also I have a vast collection of bridges, get yours now while supplies last.
This is such horse shit. We were also supposed to have like 3 day 4 hour day work weeks from the productivity gains of the last 50 years but these rich fuckers “legalized” bribery and stole it all through dogshit government policy
My opinion on humanoid robots is pretty hard line. I will never have one in my house, regardless of how beneficial its made to seem.
I dont like how my telephone or television listen to me (or car, fridge, google home, oven, other smart devices that you could own). But I’ve accepted that in some areas of my house some data is being siphoned. It’s a bitter pill to swallow but you cant really exist without a smart phone anymore (primarily for passwordless or mfa purposes). I’m not interested in letting a large morally bankrupt american company literally walk around my house and harvest data at will – I’ll wash my own dishes and take my own garbage out, thanks.
Future promises from this dude are almost guaranteed not to happen at this point.
Shit they promised a tesla roadster nearly 10 years ago at this point, and all that would require is chopping the roof off a model S. I am purposely being reductive, but my point is it’s significantly easier to make a convertible EV than it is to make life altering robots.
Was that really musk? Or is trumps hand so far up his ass he’s working him like a puppet
From the same guy who brought you DOGE and the Cybertruck. Who is still giving this guy attention?
uhhh…. ok. you pay the bills for all of us. sure
Sounds pretty much like every other promise he made… I mean the guy is good at selling dreams but the delivery part is a whole different story.
Musk is and always has been a hack, people are just starting to catch on
“We’re gonna win so much, you may even get tired of winning. And you’ll say, ‘Please, please. It’s too much winning. We can’t take it anymore, Mr. President, it’s too much.’ And I’ll say, ‘No it isn’t. We have to keep winning. We have to win more!’”
But HE and a couple of other trillionaires will own all of those robots and the AI that powers them. He’s talking about his aspirations for himself, not the 99.99999% of the rest of us.
I can’t wait for Universal Basic Income to kick in. Anyone know when it will be, exactly?
Money can get him invited to Davos but it cannot replace actual education. By any objective standards, he lacks the credentials for talking about robots and AI.
Just standard Musk rhetoric to hype his stock value and keep the masses complacent. If you remotely believe any of this, then I have a bridge to sell you.
I must say, I am disappointed with the responses to my original post.
I thought there would be some optimists in a group of futurists.
The guy stealing our money telling us we don’t need it anyways.
What the fuck was he even doing at Davos?
Yes, he, Trump and their ilk are parasitic grifters, but that’s just their nature and their business model — it’s pointless to get mad about it.
It’s the utter abject weakness of the institutions that should be containing them but are instead enabling and platforming them that pisses me off.
Everything Musk says and does is a projection of the shallow, ignorant, warped and myopic mindscape inside his own brain.
Nothing has helped me understand this moment in history more than that: **In a world where we’ve turned Tech Company Owners into digital feudal lords, their ability to create is limited by the imagination of those same leaders.**
Musk doesn’t hire or empower people who argue with him or prove him wrong, and neither does Zuckerberg or Bezos. And when a technology company gives way to Yes Men bowing to the crown, how much actual advancement or innovation could actually be accomplished?
We’ve seen the answer in front of our eyes: All of these companies have pissed away hundreds of billions trying to reinvent existing solved problems to sell back to us at a premium subscription price, or they’ve chased the idea of the Next Big Thing hoping to be the first to the gold rush of Web 3.0/Crypto/The Metaverse/AGI. None of them have actually succeeded.
But back to Musk. This is a man who has no background in programming, engineering, aeronautics, or software development. He has a BA in Physics and a BsC in Economics, both of which were mysteriously awarded to him *after* he left those schools to make it in the nascent Internet Boom era of the mid-90s.
He bought his way into every business he was attached to, and was a founder for literally *none of them*: Tesla, SpaceX, Twitter, PayPal, you fucking name it and he **wasn’t there at its inception.** He showed up later, bought his way into a C-Suite role, and ousted or outlasted everyone else until he could claim leadership credit. Rinse and repeat. His „success“ is entirely because his two *failed businesses*, Zip2 and X dot com (no, not THAT X dot com) were scooped up by bigger companies, netting him an incidental payout based on his shares.
This is a man who has never demonstrated a real interest or understanding of *anything*, yet is seemingly driven to reinvent everything. His solution for feeling uneasy with the world around him is to head somewhere new where he won’t be mocked or made to feel foolish.
He left South Africa; he left Silicon Valley; he left Politics; he wants to leave Planet Earth itself.
He is a remarkable example of a **visionary without any actual vision.** And *that’s what he’s saying here.*
This is Elon Musk straight up admitting that if he could receive wishes from a genie, he wouldn’t know what to ask for. He’s the man who has everything, but values nothing and cannot articulate what he’s missing.
He’s obsessed with his genetic legacy but cannot stand to spend any time with romantic partners or his many children.
He’s determined to seem like a cool gamer troll, but he doesn’t want to waste his time playing video games, and hires other people to do that for him.
He wants to make pop culture references, but seems to have a shockingly recent and shallow understanding of film and TV history; again, I wouldn’t be surprised if he watches clip compilations of big movies rather than sitting through them front to back.
And most damning of all: He’s a man who wants to be seen as a genius subject matter expert who just…refuses to educate himself. There’s no a university on the planet who would reject him as a student; he could literally pay the top minds in ANY FIELD to personally tutor him. He *could* master an instrument or become a genuine physicist or astrophysicist like he so clearly wants to be seen to be.
But he doesn’t. **None of these motherfuckers actually want to do the work to earn the expertise they crave, because what they** ***actually*** **value is earning as much money at any given moment as possible.** Children distract from that. Hobbies, friendship, arts, self-betterment all take away from valuable time that can be spent inflating the stock valuation of their companies.
So that’s Elon Musk. That’s the man who wants to dictate the future of humanity; a guy who barely knows what it means to be human.
Suffer now. Give your life to Elon. You will be rewarded in the afterlife!
While automation and robots in general WILL reduce the cost of producing goods by up to 95%, those savings won’t go to the consumer. That’ll end up going to the profit margin of the producer.
People will be made jobless, homeless, and then will be put in mass produced housing tucked away where no one can see them, all enforced by robots where you live out the rest of your life in a 20×20 apartment with all the basics furnished but no resources to do anything with other than live.
