This is a lot of work. Bravo.
Now several countries rank much higher because Global Data Lab updated their education indicators, which I think were projections from a long time ago. This change in scores is better seen in Scandinavia, South America and Oceania.
Slow down there, Argentina. Some stats are not tallied at the subnational level (like life expectancy) giving Argentina’s poor northern provinces cover from the more developed central areas. This map would give the impression Argentina has a higher HDI than Chile, and that is not the case (Chile’s life expectancy is 4-5yrs higher).
Don’t move South from Colorado.
Northern morocco is worse than the south?
Is there any more information about the data? I’m curious what in particular makes some of these areas ranked higher. Minnesota is sort of surprising to me.
Addis Ababa with the smallest speck of green
Whoever made this index likes cold weather
Newfoundland and Salvador in same band as Yucatan pennninsula, Algeria and Kerala?
What’s so special about Washington, Colorado and Wisconsin?
How did Qatar not make it into the top category?
Western Turkey has finally caught up to European levels, an impressive improvement on Turkey’s part.
You’re telling me lapland has the same hdi as benelux?
USA has a cute little positive face, Appalachian arm reaching into it’s pocket of poverty.
Japan and France have green areas. Interesting.
Saudi Arabia? WTF. What does this index measure?
Where did you get this data?
Canada is pretty suspicious. According to this Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Canadian_provinces_and_territories_by_Human_Development_Index, Newfoundland and Labrador are above 0.900 HDI, and Nunavut and the Northwest Territories are both below that.
Neither of these are properly rendered on the map.
