Some provinces‘ names do not have confirmed etymological meanings, like Aceh, Riau, Maluku, etc. so for these names I use the most likely theory or the ones that sound nice.

Sulawesi people = ironborn
Joke aside, Sulawesi came from sula = spearhead and wesi / besi = iron
So Sulawesi literally means iron spearhead island (not just iron island)
