What is life like in that northwest corner of Kansas? There’s a good quadrant of counties with less than 1 person per square mile!

It can’t be coincidental that there are (albeit slight) population centers at the geometric centers of most counties. Is this real, or just an artifact of the data or analysis?

I’m probably missing historical context here, but why even have county subdivisions so small like that in the west?

I think it’s cool you can make out the path of the Santa Fe Trail on here just from the population centers.
