  1. The Democrats have pushed a bill that would fund the TSA without funding ICE. The GOP rejected it. They pushed a bill that would fund both the TSA and ICE (and the rest of DHS) with reforms for ICE. The GOP rejected it.

I’m not sure what he’s talking about – Democrats are absolutely being blamed for this, as seen in other headlines. Nevermind who has the “majority”.

Also, speaking from Wisconsin: fuck Ron Johnson.

A reminder that Republicans hold all the levers of power

All this demonstrates is their complete inability to govern

Damn. Guess the party that has control of the government should get to fixing that.

  5. Just wear name tags, body cameras, and stop going into people’s houses without a judicial warrant.

  6. One of the things the Democrats need to do better is explain **WHY** this shutdown is happening. What is it the Democrats are holding out for, and more importantly, what are they not holding out for. I’m a news junkie and I don’t know. How is the average Joe or Jane standing in line at the airport supposed to know?

I’m not seeing Schumer or that other guy explaining this. I’m not hearing much from my senators or representative either. They need to get really loud to drown out the spin machine from the right. Folks like Trump and Cruz are getting significant air time to tell whoppers of lies. You’d think the press would be pushing back hard on those lies, but you’d be wrong.

All the GOP needs to do is make some reforms to DHS that would bring them back to sane practices.

  8. Call me crazy, but perhaps a country that doesn’t come close to having it’s affairs in order shouldn’t be starting Wars

  9. Can the people of Wisconsin please do something to throw this worthless liar out of Congress?

Republicans need to have lawless agents wearing masks terrorizing people? No thanks. Democrats should not budge. They will be blamed because Republican oligarchs own all of the mainstream news outlets.

I don’t give a fuck. Keep it shut down. Let the republicans come crawling and begging. Fuck them.

Democrats have already signaled their willingness to fund these separate agencies through multiple bills; including TSA. Republicans have shot down these proposals every time.

All the hand-wringing and pearl clutching from the right is just performative. They couldn’t care less about these employees. All they care about is selling a narrative.

Republicans don’t care about TSA staff, including Trump who has threatened to send his personal army of ICE thugs to airports if Democrats don’t submit to his demands. What the fuck is ICE gonna do? Sow more chaos is what’s likely.

So Republicans are blocking bills to fund these agencies while insisting that Democrats are responsible for issues at airports. They’re flooding social media with propaganda that includes videos of overworked staff, long lines and flight delays.

Republicans push this deceptive messaging on the public and demand sympathy for TSA employees who have been hit hard by the „dEmOcRaT sHuTdOwn,“ but they never showed sympathy for the hundreds of thousands of federal employees who have been indiscriminately laid off by this administration.

No concern either for TSA staff during the last shutdown when the GOP refused to open the government because Dems wanted affordable healthcare for Americans.

Republicans are just stirring the pot with their typical brand of histrionics and finger pointing.

They also want to blame these recent domestic attacks on dems when they should be holding their president accountable for getting us embroiled in another needless foreign war in the middle east under false pretenses; radicalizing these extremists all the more.

And let’s clear some things up.

    1. MAGA doesn’t care about the victims of these tragedies, not nearly as much as they care about selling a narrative and vindicating their islamophobic, anti-immigrant attitudes and grievances.

    2. The DHS funding lapse did NOT cause these attacks. Over 90% of DHS employees were still working. ICE, CBP, and immigration enforcement agents can also tap into the massive reserve of national security funds provided by Trump’s big ugly bill. TSA precheck remains operational as well.

    3. Even IF DHS were non-functional, it’s still only one of MANY agencies that handle counterterrorism. The FBI, the CIA, the NSA, NCTC, the DoD, spec ops command, and state and local law enforcement are all key players in combatting domestic terrorism.

So stop with the fake outrage. Democrats rightly refuse to fund a corrupt department that’s incompetent from top to bottom and in desperate need of reforms. Reforms that are basic for any law enforcement agency for that matter.

And remember that last year, Republicans provided Trump with $150 billion in extra funding for his mass deportation agenda and immigration enforcement operations at the expense of the American peoples‘ access to healthcare, food assistance, and economic opportunities.

ICE became the largest funded law enforcement agency in US history—insanity!

So what do Republicans have to complain about? They got their „national security“ funding, Americans got their pockets picked.

Aside from this, Dems justifiably draw the line at funding a DHS that’s lacking in all transparency while failing to uphold the law and shoulder any accountability for its mistakes, oversights, and flagrant injustices.

A DHS that the American people overwhelmingly distrust due to its impropriety and corruption.

A DHS that is unprecedented in its violent, militaristic and authoritarian approach to immigration enforcement.

An ICE presence that is NOT making our country more „secure,“ but is occupying our streets, terrorizing our people, suppressing our civil liberties, and escalating violence wherever they go.

And don’t even start about FEMA when Republicans have repeatedly voted down FEMA funding while proposing cuts.

Hell, Trump has even discussed eliminating or phasing out the agency altogether, saying things like FEMA should „go away.“

Not to mention how Trump and Republicans have halted or politicized disaster relief and disaster proofing projects, while threatening to withhold/delay contracts and resources to Democrat run areas of the country out of sheer spite.

Republicans need only look at themselves to see who’s responsible for the degradation of these federal agencies, and most of all, for making this country a less secure and unsafe place for Americans to live.

  13. The people should demand a law. If congress cannot pass a full fy budget on time, members of congress are ineligible to run again. Additionally, if Oct 1, no budget they do not get paid until a budget is passed. This inability of negotiation and compromise needs to end.

  14. Dems have proposed funding for ONLY the TSA and the Reps continuously vote AGAINST it.

  15. CryptoCentric on

Hey, so, how about at the very least you arrest the three people guilty of executing innocent American citizens on camera before you ask us all to be okay with giving ICE even more money? Maybe?

GOP is unable to govern as a majority party and it shows every time they are in power. They can’t even keep the lights on.

Notice how this insufferable bullshit always happens when republicans control congress?
