These are the worst crimes in my books. I don’t understand why they get swept under the carpet. They should all spend life in jail.

  2. I believe the three culprits were brothers to a nationalist Gozitan, at the time heavyweight. Also connected to the church structure. Now they do not want to talk about it or even comment. They want to make it a non event.

When the Times of Malta actually drops the gatekeeping and exposes a PN-connected family, you know the situation is completely indefensible. We are so used to seeing them bury the PN’s misbehaviours that seeing them publish this means the stench was simply too strong to cover up.

Gosh… a child raped multiple times, a priest allegedly acting as a bagman for a €7,000 hush payment, and the brothers of a PN politician walking away from a rape charge because a pressured family withdrew their complaint. If this had involved individuals from the other side of the political aisle, it would have been front-page news for months with relentless, daily editorials demanding resignations. But because of who is involved, the case has been kept hidden for years.

It is a masterclass in Gozitan omertà meets „independent“ media hypocrisy. The institutions failed that girl, the church brokered the silence, and the media only speaks up when the cover-up becomes more embarrassing than the truth. It makes you wonder how many other inconvenient stories about the „right“ families have been successfully swept under the rug over the years.

Now let’s wait for Newsbook’s take on the case. Pff.

‚Finding that the law at the time allowed prosecution for rape without the victim’s consent only if the alleged acts occurred in a public setting.‘

  5. This is why I stopped going to church since I was a young teen. Speaking as a victim to inappropriate touching by a priest. Needed so much counseling…
