      While it’s obvious that economic factors that emerge from racism can cause people to be more likely to break the law, how about we do something to reduce inequality and racial discrimination instead of whatever this is?

      So are a lot of other people. Nothing should give anyone a more lenient sentence.

      It’s such an odd thing to think about. I totally understand that his life experiences (race included) obviously played a role in his life’s trajectory … but on the other hand the judge is effectively saying that because of his upbringing he is more likely to offend/re-offend and thus we’ll give him a lower sentence.

      I had a shitty upbringing and was surrounded by shitty people and didn’t do these things. It clearly must be because I’m white. This whole thing also insinuates that PoC are more susceptible to becoming bad actors. I’m sure these individuals are unbelievably grateful for the leniency and will become better people lmao

      To serve as punishment, and also as a deterrent to others, to say „the same thing could happen to you if you commit this crime“

      What message does this send to other would-be black criminals?
