Smart on Iran’s part. Drive a wedge between the U.S. and its Asian allies.

The right title is: „Japanese ships (and others) will be allowed to pass Hormuz if they pay a toll to us (we make the price)“

  3. Honestly this might be a path for de-escalation.

Usa says it doesn’t need anything from anyone so they shouldn’t be aloud to use the straight…but (most) everyone can. That would quell alot of the prices and panic. But I don’t see either side making it easy even if the other was ok with what I said. Trump may not want to give up ever until Iran „surrenders“ and keep bombing until they do and Iran may want usa to completely vacate the middle east and keep bombing until they do.

  4. Iran has negligible control over the strait.. but no one is risking it before things have calmed down. This is all performative..

Guess that Pearl Harbor joke didn’t go over too well. Japan isn’t stupid, fuck trump.

  6. Are we going to bash Japan like India with Russian oil?

Isn’t Iran evil? Why is Japan doing side deals with Iran for safe passage when US is a big ally?

Japan has the blood of the Iranians being killed. /s.

Pro tip: In the end, every country is in it for themselves, doesn’t matter who you your allies are.

dafuq are they doing? handing out EZ passes and beeping each tanker? some guy w binoculars on the coastline is radioing this in??

  8. Iran is more worth building friendly relations with than the damn United States.

  9. You gotta pay the Ayatollah Toll if you wanna get in…

Or maybe, the Strait Rate, Mullah Mulah, Cruise Dues…

The more Iran allows certain countries to pass, the less incentive they have to join the emperor’s so called coalition to secure the strait.

    Makes sense for Japan.
Why send ships and people to their doom when you can just pay to pass or make some sort of a deal

Every exception they make lowers oil and gas prices, undermining their leverage.

  13. Flag of ships and flag of country are often not the same. How do they plan to do it

  14. Trump’s diplomatic skills are a little lacking… which is creating a lot of chaotic political theater and (maybe) some unexpected geopolitics.

IR are using this to create ambiguity and disalignment.

I don’t think we are headed for a stable scenario where Iran-approved vessels can navigate. Houthis made similar statements, but Irl they just made navigation dangerous for all.

**A – **There is no point for IR to pursue this. If Oil and gas can get out to global markets, there is no problem and the closure is useless.

**B – ** The US isn’t going to tolerate a state where Iran navigates freely but they do not.

We have to keep in mind that this isn’t a „real“ embargo or siege. They aren’t patrolling, inspecting and boarding civ ship. They are randomly  attacking them, using mines and such-like.

  15. You guys really have no idea how countries make decisions huh?? This statement means literally nothing.

    > “We have not closed the strait. In our opinion, the strait is open. It is closed only to ships belonging to our enemies, countries that attack us. For other countries, ships can pass through the strait ,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Japan’s Kyodo News late on Friday.

Is Thailand an enemy of Iran?
