Nope, there’s the Republican party and thier donors that are traitors to the United States of America!
I don’t know…we’ve been hated by LOADS of people across the globe for AGES now.
To this degree and this universally though? Yeah, this is fresh and new.
“We are hated as a nation now. One man has done this.”
Bull. Shit. I respect Charlie Pierce, but, Bull. Shit.
The vast majority of our free-willed grown-ass adult society is to blame.
Republican voters, non-voters, and third party voters = 70% of our free-willed grown-ass adult public.
They did this. And not only did they do this, they did this after already touching the hot stove once.
Trump did not fall out of the sky and impose himself on us. Our society did this and our society enables this.
We deserve the hate, and blaming one shiny object at the top is a pathetic way of coddling the very people who are to blame.
These 70% of Americans? The stupidest and most privileged people to ever walk the face of the earth. They’ll still be here when Trump is gone.
He may be the face but we are all to blame.
I wonder what an America that happily punished the confederate leadership instead of deciding to set a precedent of letting rich and/or powerful people get away with their crimes would look like today.
Trump didn’t help, but I disagree that „one man is to blame“. He’s just another part of the snowball of terrible decisions that got us here. Plenty of people disliked America before Trump came along.
Hell, I was born in the US and am going on 40 and I genuinely can’t think of a time when I’ve ever liked this place enough to feel even remotely patriotic about it; even more-so after I started to travel in my 20s and lived abroad for a few years.
I mean, alternatively there is 77 million, 302 thousand, 580 people to blame.
It is all about how you look at it.
I mean sure, Trump is a corrupt, lying, racist rapist, but he did get more than just his own vote. And we knew all that WELL before the election. We knew that before the 2016 election.
So when you elect a Corrupt, lying, racist rapist as President, and nobody likes him because he is a corrupt, lying, racist rapist, I am not sure he is the only person we should be blaming here. I mean sure, he is certainly one person we should be blaming. But I am not convinced he is the only one.
the entire GOP pedo protectors are to blame
It’s cute trying to pin everything on one man, who is just a visible symptom of a much deeper disease which will continue to rot the entire country the longer it goes unaddressed.
No. He’s a trigger point and making it all worse, of course, but a lot of us hate a lot of things about you without him.
He’s been pretty open about what a shit person he is – he didn’t win the election by one vote. 10’s of millions voted for him.
There’s an entire nation to blame and will be deservedly blamed for generations to come
No – there’s lots of incompetent folks to blame in congress as well.
Self inflicted. Letting some rich people becoming wealthy to the point of insanity, growing god syndrom, ready to overthrow civilization while using the worst and dirtiest buffon ever know in history.
And the whole world would have to pay the price for this insanity?
If you guys elected a golden retriever to lead you, I wouldn’t blame the dog.
Nope. Everyone who supports him, voted for him, or was a registered voter that sat out the last election out of laziness or apathy are the ones to blame for our country being hated right now.
very wrong. The republicans in congress continue to enable him to trample on the constitution. They are equally to blame, and realistically MORE to blame because they (most of them anyways) don’t have dementia
Nah the entire Republican Party gets a lot of blame
Well that’s just dumb. There are about 75,000,000 people to blame.
Republicans are to blame, centrist democrats are to blame, people who did not vote are to blame.
The world isn’t buying this shit anymore. Everyone knows it’s not just Trump. America is a sick society that cannot be trusted, now or in the future
The fact that with all the chaos that’s being caused by the US and Trump, that the midterms will still be *close* tells me everything need to know about Americans and their so-called values.
Nah, I’m definitely blaming the people that voted for him. I’m also blaming the people that enable him.
The USA is not like this because Donald Trump was elected president.
Donald Trump was elected president because the USA is like this.
Trump is the most god awful person on Earth, but he is enabled by the entire GOP and an apathetic selfish American public. There’s been plenty of chances to stop Trump and no one has been successful. Right now, today, Congress, lead by Republicans, could put an end to this insanity.
The American people must be in a collective coma .
Where is the outrage ?
If this was Europe thr place would be burned to the ground .
We have a hell if a lot more assholes than him unfortunately. Hes just one of the spokespeople
As much as I hate Trump, he is not the only one to blame. He is a symptom of a much larger cancer that has taken form in America.
Trump is a symptom, not the reason.
I’m not American, and obviously Trump is a piece of shit, but in one way I’m *glad* he came though.
He’s taken the lid off how America works – even if his version of it is extreme and less „sophisticated“.
– Kowtowing to Israel and the Israel lobby
– Bullying of other nations
– Interventionist policies in the affairs of other countries etc
– its two-tiered, internal, justice system
– its broken electoral system it refuses to fix
– the heavy, heavy propaganda against so-called „socialism“
– American exceptionalism
I think Trump has woken up a lot of people to the „reality“ of America both inside the US and across the globe.
TWICE American citizens have elected ACTORS to the position and both times have been devastating for the rest of the West (Reagan’s tax and economic policies have made things materially worse for workers the world over).
Don’t dump this at Trump’s feet or the feet of people who voted for him. They’re symptoms.
The problem runs much deeper and still exists if it’s Obama in the White House.
